My eyes are swollen after surgery.....wtf?
So things are going well since surgery but.....lets see I had surgery on Tuesday, home Wednesday and then to sleep. Woke up the next day with one of my eyes looking like Mike Tyson hit me. Then the next day I woke up with the other eye swollen to. It feels like fluid under my eyes. I normally have puffy eyes (bags) but this is extreme and uncomfortable. The other thing that happened is I started getting this draining in the back of my throat that tickles....I give up!!!! SO to say the least the tickle in my throat is making me cough.....OUCH! Of course most of this is happening when my doctor is out of the office. Sorry to complain, just frustrated and wondering why I am going through this. I was wondering if it had to do with fluid retension...???
Allergies/cold maybe? Is there some kind of advice nurse/urgent care you can call and ask? Seems a little weird, I might be worried if it were me.

I agree it sounds like post nasal drip from allergies. Maybe your dr's office willl prescribe some nasonex that always helps me. Also you can see the pharmacist and see what kind of nasal spray you may use (i.e. Afrin, saline, or a nasal irrigation). Maybe also Claritin and an expectorant like Mucinex.
Thanks everyone =) I was also wondering if I was having an adverse reaction to one of the medicatoins I am on. I was on Reglan (nausea), prilosec, Demerol (pain). and Heparin for blood thinning. Since my eyes swelled I stopped several in hopes I was reacting to it. I stopped the Reglan because I wasn't naseated and I stopped the demerol because I wasn't in any pain. So now I am only on Prilosec and Heperin. Hopefully its not the Heparin because I need to take it. My face burns and itches as well. Maybe I will see if the hospital has an advice nurse.
Sounds like an allergic reaction. Pay attention for dangerous signs like short of breath and swelling of lips, tongue, etc. If you don't have an epipen, you need to be very alert for worsening conditions. Despite all the advancements out there, a pharmacist would still probably recommend Benadryl. Its good stuff. If this reaction could be due to a new medication that you are taking, stop taking it until you see or talk to your doctor. Continue use could make symptoms progress.
I'm not a medical professional, but I have severe allergies and have had my whole face blow up from a medication. If the swelling had gone into my mouth, it could have been lethal. My lips were so big that I could see them while looking straight ahead.
If dangerous symptoms occur, head to the ER quickly. A medical professional may say go now, I don't know.

WOW well sorry this is happening. YES get it checked out. But if there is fluid from eye socket (swollen eyes) its probably draining from your sinues to your throat..but WHY?? Is the question.
I believe they put tape over our eyes during surgery for anesthesia..ask.
Oddly my 3yo niece just woke up with the same thing..eyes swollen shut. MD not sure if its a virus or a bite.
Stil.. GET IT CHECKED OUT!
Good luck.. let us know how you're doing ok?
Warmly, Jan

Well the draining in my throat is almost gone (knock on wood)...but the swelling in my eyes is still present. @ Elina....I did Call Dr. Cirangle and he called me right back, literally 1 minute later. Sometimes I wonder about him....for a man that is so talented and passionate about his work he seems so angry at the same time. He suggested taking Benedryl to help with a possible reaction to Heparin. He said I could stop taking the Heparin but I think I would rather live with swollen eyes for 11 more days of Heparin treatment then a blood clot....=) Dr. Cirangle asked if I was getting out of the house and doing stuff.....I laughed at him and said, I am not going anywhere looking like "Rocky" after the fight!
Thanks everyone for the great advice =)

Leslie, he is not angry just... complicated. I have known him for a while now and have seen him do incredible things to help people. He can be very blunt and does not sugar coat anything, but he really cares deeply. If you need anything, call him, he is OK with it. When you need him, even years later, he will be there for you. There is a lot to be said for that in this busy, crazy world. I have also seen and heard of him going WAY out of his way to help people when there was nothing at all in it for him. He is the real thing, a genuine article. I have known him now for two years and I still learn from him every month. Reach out to him or his NUT anytime you need it. If you use his support system, your weight loss journey will be much easier. Let me know if I can help ever, in any way. I hope the allergy goes away soon. If it gets worse at all, call him right away. This place is great, but you have one of the best support people just a phone call away.
