Today I was talking to a good friend of mine about my decision for WLS. She asked me if I thought WLS would help me because I do not eat that much. I agree with her. I do not eat a whole lot at all. I eat when I am hungry but, I am not an emotional eater or eat out of boredom. She thinks since I already do not eat much, would it be a possibility that surgery will not work for me. It is kinda hard to answer that as that is one of my fears. I am afraid that since I really don't eat a whole lot and obesity runs in my family, I may be destined to a life of obesity. Has anyone feared this themselves?

I think it'll still help you, because you're forced to eat different because of the surgery, and not wanting to ruin your new stomach. I lost 25 the first 2 weeks, just cause you have to be on liquids right after the surgery. You won't feel like eating any sooner anyway. Good Luck to you!

Hi,
I just wondered if you don't eat much, have you ever dieted to lose weight?
Have you ever kept a daily diary of the foods you eat?
Ever counted calories? Drink 8-10 glasses of water a day?

I really think that if you haven't even tried a diet, you can't be sure...but, I know if you eat less than your body needs, you will lose weight!

Genetics to play a part somewhat in obesity but (in my opinion) more than anything becomes an excuse to overeat!
I come from a family which my father's side are all very heavy people but, that is because they ate like crazy!  Two or three visits to the buffet table with dessert plate piled high at the end!  So, I know my grandmother at one point went to weigh****chers and got to goal and looked great!
I have an anorexic sister who can eat like a  dog!  She is a size 0-1.  A brother normal weight and a sister just a little overweight.  So, it can be beat.

The reason I chose to help my weight-loss along, is to get to a goal and actually (when the hard work starts) stay at that goal for lifetime!

Good luck making your decision.

Don't forget this isn't a diet!  This is a lifestyle change!  You will lose  and  as long as you keep track of your eating habits, you will not gain it back!

That is my goal!!
Good luck in your decision!!

Take care

I worried about that same thing! And I think maybe one thing that changes is that you are so much more aware of what you are putting in your mouth!  I think I used to eat more then I thought, I know for sure I ate the wrong things!  Right now Im only getting about 500 calories a day and Im sure I ate more then that before!  It seems to be working for me!  No matter what you do your weight is based on calories in versus calories out, you may not be eating much but what ever you are eating is keeping you at this weight!

Good luck on your journey!

I chose VSG for lots of reasons - among them was the fact that eating "out of boredom" IS emotional eating. Me, I needed a "restriction" that wouldn't allow me to eat more than I needed; the sleeve provides that restriction.  My exercise and attention to my nutrition plan (and the restriction) have enabled me to lose 156 lbs. in 8 mos. and I'm 21 lbs. from my goal weight.  I've also lost Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea and all the aches and pains associated with morbid obesity.  I walk 4 miles daily - no days off, ever - except for days when I play golf - then I'm walking 7+ miles on the course.  My life has changed radically - I've got tons of energy, and I rarely take any meds except the vitamins/minerals that are part of my program.  I eat a 90% "normal" diet now, I just eat a lot less of it.  Not to shabby for a 65-year-old geezer.  Surgery is responsible for a critical factor (restriction) in my weight-loss program; daily exercise and mindful attention to my nutrition regimen are the other keys to my success.  The weight doesn't get cut off in the OR; hard work and consistent attention to the program = successful, rapid weight loss.   Good luck in making a considered decision that will be right for you.
