Am I overreacting?
Ok, last week I posted about going to my nutrition class, having my psych evaluation and meeting my surgeon. When I submitted my application at the bariatric center, I did not list which surgeon I wanted (there are two there). Both of them perform every surgery together but, the surgeon that is "your" surgeon is the one performing and the other assists.
With that being said, I met the surgeon that they assigned to me last week. I told them I wanted the other prior to my consult but I guess it was never recorded anywhere. Well, I went to, let's just call him "the other guy" and he was horrible (or at least in my opinion). My mother went with me because I am hoping she will consider the surgery for herself and I also wanted to put her mind at ease that I was in capable hands. She worries.
So, my mother is sitting in the room reading a brochure over her glasses, not through them. I am answering a question that the surgeon asked me and while I am talking he is staring at her reading. I stopped and asked him if there was a problem. He just says, "oh, I am just wondering why she is reading like that". WTF? He is really that uninterested in what I was saying or that A.D.D.? How am I supposed to believe that he will be focused on my treatment if he can't listen to my response to his question without him being distracted? He also had no idea that my blood work was done, didn't know that I had already been to a nutrition class and psych, and did not seem sure of himself when I asked him a question. The thing that really pissed me off was when he told me he was putting me on the Atkins diet. Cool, no problem. But he tells me, "when you eat a burger, just eat the meat with no bun. Look down (looking at his stomach) and say I don't need the bun, I already have a roll right here". Are you effin' kidding me??? Really? I already felt like **** about my appearance but, thanks for making me want to run out into oncoming traffic!
So, I called the office Monday and told them I wanted to switch surgeons to the one I asked for in the beginning (who is also the founder of the bariatric center). I have to go in for another consult next week with him. I am cool with that and the added expense as long as I have him. Small price to pay to be happy and comfortable.
Here's my question, would any of you be offended or am I overreacting?

I think you are exactly right. You aren't asking for a free consultation to see the other Dr, you are going at it fair and square. You NEED to have 100% confidence and faith in your Dr, so yes, if you need to meet the other one, meet him. If you have any reluctancy in this current Dr, you will probably continue to and it will likely only get worse. Good luck!
