I went to Dr. Aceves in Mexicali. I am doing well, had some issues with reflux after surgery, but I'm being treated by a gastroenterologist here at home. I'm 24.5lbs to goal, which is slower than some, but I am ok with that. The fee did not include my flight. My husband came with me and stayed in my hospital room with me on a leather sofa for free. He just had to pay for his own meals. The Almater hospital where Dr. Aceves does his surgeries is top-notch, the nursing staff is excellent and caring, and I never once felt unsafe when I was there. Everyone is super nice, all the doctors speak English, and the rooms are comfortable and very clean. Other than the reflux, I have had no complications. You need to do your research, and remember cheaper is not always better--sometimes you get what you pay for.
Dr. Alvarez in Piedras Negras is excellent! He is just over the border from Eagle Pass, TX, and his website is endobariatric.com . I am almost three years out, and I have not had the first problem. The surgery was a breeze, and I had no problem managing the airports or flight home afterwards. Almost no discomfort and a very easy recovery.
The cost included everything but the flight into San Antonio. My friend stayed with me in the hospital suite, and there was no extra charge. She did have to leave the room for her meals, so I gave her money for that. I believe I remember that there was a little snack bar in the hospital as well as restaurants just outside the hospital. She had no taking care of herself.
Give Dr. Alvarez serious thought, because he is tops!

I, too, went to Dr Aceves. I agree with tkdgrl78 on the Dr.s, staff, and facility. My hubby stayed on the leather couch also. The only thing he wished he had brought is our Xbox to play video games as he did get pretty bored..LOL. I am out 2.5 years out and still think Dr Aceves was the best choice for ME.
Good luck!
Good luck!
I used dr.joya....he was fantastic...you recover at a beach front hotel after you are released from the hospital (2 days later) I am 17 days out and down 16 pounds and would highly recommend him...he is around the 7000.00 in peurto vallarta and about 5000.00 in tijiuana....www.drjoya.com I have pictures everything, the hospital was unbelievable you could eat of the floors etc...my husband stayed with me in the hospital, they had recliners, and couches...and they fed him and everything at no extra cost...if you want to see pics or anything let me know...best wishes..Bobbi Jo
Hi, I had my vsg surgery in Tijuana Mexico with Dr Ramos Kelly. I paid $5000 in February. It included everything except for the airfare. It also included all the meals in the hospital for a companion which my hubby never cared for because it was healthy food and he instead wanted tacos and local mexican food. Also the rooms have a hospital bed for you, a recliner and a comfy full size bed for your companion. I myself chose to sleep in the comfy bed next to my hubby. After two days you go to a nice hotel called lucerna. Its very nice and upscale. I was very pleased with the doctors knowledge and the hospital staff too. Everyone including the doctor speaks english. I would do it again if I need to. Very happy about everything.
