Hi,

I am 5 weeks out and lost 25 lbs so far down 40 all together.   for the last two weeks I have not seemed to loose anything.   would appreciate any suggestions... I know I have been drinking some choc lowfat milk I think maybe too much carbs.  How many carbs are we to take in a day?  Thanks.

Welcome to the dreaded and famous 3-week stall. Mine lasted from week 4 (hey, I'm slow) to 6. Search "3 week stall" and you'll find out how common it is.

Just keep on your plan and it'll break.

That said, here's the generic plan:

70 - 80 grams of protein
less than 30 grams of carbs
600-800 calories
64 oz plus of fluids

Hope this helps.

Highest weight: 335 lbs, BMI 50.9
Pre-op weight: 319 lbs, BMI 48.5
Current range: 140-144, BMI 21.3 - 22

175+ lbs lost, maintaining since February 2012

My doctor does not have a set of calories or carbs. If one of first three ingredients are sugar, we are to stay away.

Sounds like you are doing great!

Ditto!  My 3-week stall lasted about 2 1/2 weeks.  Did you do a pre-op diet?  My NUT said that the liver takes back the glycogen you lose (usually at about 3 weeks) during the low-low carb diet, and for every pound of glycogen, it takes 4 pounds of water for your body to store.  YOU are still losing weight, but your liver is hiding the fact.  You've got a great weight loss going, so you should feel uber confident that you'll start losing again soon.

Interesting... I never heard that before.  Where we're both in WA, can I ask who your NUT is and where they're located?  I met with one once pre-op, but haven't been back yet... still evaluating options to see if I find one I click with.

Stalls are common at this stage of the game. For reference I shoot for 100 grams protein  40 carbs 600-800 calories and 1 hour of physical activity (try to burn 300-400 calories or so). Stay with your plan and the  stall will break.

It is likely the choc milk. check the stats/ingredients. It is likely full of carbs and sugar.

The body will use easily available simple sugar(like in choc milk) for energy before it will break down body fat for energy. As long as you drink choc milk, the body won't break down as much fat for energy. This will keep you from losing all the fat you could plus it will make you hold water to process the carbs.

Hang in there and ditch the CM!,
