So, I have a question.
My surgery is scheduled for August 15th, and I move back into my dorm 10 days late on August 25th. My question is this: Should I make sure I'm packed and everything for school prior to my surgery? Do you think I'll feel ok enough to do any packing the few days before I move back?
Also, how were you with maneuvering around after the surgery. My bed in the dorm is kinda far off the ground, (I'm pretty short and normally have to either jump or use a chair/stepstool to get on the bed) and wanted to know if I'd be ok doing that so soon after surgery.

I would definitely try to pack before hand. I was pretty sore for the first week and then I still didn't want to lift much the second week.
My bed is pretty high up and I think it was better that way. It was much easier for me to get in my bed than it was to get on my couch which is a lot lower. I felt less pulling getting up than getting down. I hope that makes sense. I hope this helps. Good luck!

I would pack now! And make sure that you have someone to help you move. Don't want to go lifting heavy objects and getting a hernia...they can hurt!
As far as the getting to bed....I think you should be okay. Everyone recovers differently and has different pain levels, but if you take it easy the first 10 days you will probably be fine. You may feel alittle soreness, but you should be able to make it on your bed.

save yourself some post op stress. pack everything now. the bonus is that it'll keep you busy and give you some exercise pre op.
you may also want to check in with your surgeon. most have rules about lifting post op. i couldn't lift anything greater than 5# for 2-3 weeks (which means i couldn't even pick up a gallon of milk to give you perspective). and, honestly, i didn't feel like lifting anything. i was toooo sore in spots where the probes went in, especially one spot i called the b*tch, which was upper left abdomen. i wasn't even able to wear a real bra for almost 2 months.
good luck!

Pack now so you can rest and focus on eating right and exercise after your surgery. Like the others said, include snacks you can eat easily and your protein powder and shakes and get family or friends to help with the move-in. You may still be sore and have lifting restriction. Have fun at school and make time for yourself to exercise.
First of all congrats on your impending surgery! How exciting! As someone who lived in a dorm awhile ago, I can understand your angst. I would definitely pack/prepare ahead of time. I would also be sure to take a step stool. You'll be able to use it to get in and out of bed. I also agree with the other posters. All people recover differently. I am 32 and am 9 days out today. I could have moved into a dorm and set everything up on day 7. But, it's better to be prepared for the worst and then enjoy it if you recover quickly. Good luck and I wish you well in the new school year!
