I am rooting for you! I had the crap band(no longer). I know it is a pain in the rear but keep at it!! You want this so bad!! You can do this!!

I know how you feel, I had to drink those nasty (DELICIOUS:) boxed shakes to lose 20 lbs before my previous surgery.

Good Luck. Keep at it

Take 500-1500 mg of L-glutamine 3 times a day about 30 minutes before meals. This will help suppress your appetite and cravings. Also take chromium once in the morning and once in the evening. Drink LOTS of water.

I agree with others, this was by the far the HARDEST part of the process.  And to top it off, your doctors office is having you lose SO much weight beforehand, that's crazy talk!  Geesh that would **** me off too!  Well, if that's their rules, you gotta stick with it and do the best you can.  I was allowed beef jerky and string cheese in moderation.  maybe a little will help?  Also try different types of shakes?  Sorry, I couldn't offer more.. just wanted to let you know that I sincerly feel your pain, but this too shall pass, then you're not going to care!! Happy Days girlfriend!

That's a long time! You have done great for already having 17 days down!!  I couldn't do protein shakes on mine, it was clear liquid only for 7 days. Have you tried freezing the protein shakes to make it like ice cream? Maybe mixing flavors of protein shakes, like orange with vanilla for dreamsicle? Can you drink broths? I did chicken noodle soup/beef vege soup and strained it and only drank the broth. It always seemed the warm drinks helped make me feel more satisfied. I also added crystal light or mio to ice and blended that up in the magic bullet to have a snocone style.

I know it is very difficult... maybe watch lots of movies when you have down time? That helps me take my mind off what is going on in reality.

Good luck to you!

Amy

If you drink 5 shakes a day, you'll still be under 1000 calories unless you're drinking very high calorie ones. That's plenty low for a pre-op diet!

Try adding less than a teaspoon of Hershey's Cocoa (or the store brand is what I use) to a chocolate shake to make it richer. For variety, add sugar free jello or pudding mix to vanilla shakes. The pudding mix can be a problem post-op because it thickens the shakes, but pre-op it might actually help with staying full.

You need to up the shakes to about 4 a day and all the broth and jello you can hole. It won't make you gain but will help with the hunger. I have been known to eat a whole bowl of prepared sf jello during my preop if that was what it took to keep me from being hungry.

gl you will make it,
h

Bless your heart!!!  You have done so well on ONLY 2 shakes per day!  I did 5 shakes (EAS Low Carb pre-mixed) a day plus beef/chicken broth, SF jello, etc.  If I got super hungry, I would have an extra shake.  I lost 18 lbs in 2 1/2 weeks.  You CAN do this!!   But, I would up the shakes.  You need your protein going into surgery.  Please keep us posted.

Blessings.....Dee

(((Hugs))) I absolutely hated the pre-op diet, and I only had to do 7 days! I lost weight but was mis-er-a-bull. I hate the shakes and felt so down and nearly desperate to eat more normally. All I can say is if you cheat, choose protein, not carbs. BTW, aside from the liver-reducing short term diet I think a weight loss requirement for WLS (except maybe (!) for the super super obese) is not just stupid but malpractice. All it does is delay and discourage effective treatment.
