Wow, 6 days post-op already!
Hi OH Friends,
I am 6 days post-op today and I can't believe it! My surgery went well and Dr. Ganta did a great job. I was discharged after one night and two full days. Came home and was in pain from the gas more than the sutures. My back was killing me too. I am not a back sleeper so all the time on the operating table and in the hospital bed was painful. I have to admit that I have recovered better than I thought I would. I still struggle to get the 64 oz. of clear liquids in and 70 oz. of protein, but it's getting there. I can hear everything going through me as I sip, sip, sip. I am weaning myself off of pain meds and have been getting out of the house since the day I was home. It's hard to walk fast though because with every step, my stomach moves and the sutures hurt. Haven't had to take heartburn meds or any other meds other than the occasional pain meds and gas x. I could not have done this without the gas x! I am excited about what the future holds. Good luck to all those waiting for their approvals, awaiting pending surgeries, and currently recovering from their surgeries!
Helpful hints:
- Take a pillow in the car with you when you travel so it can stabilize your stomach.
- For women- buy a sports bra that closes in the front (it will be nicer to your sutures).
- Don't be afraid to take a "chaser" of something after trying your pain meds, they are terrible!
- Sleeping in a recliner CAN be comfortable!
- Broths are better when they are filtered from "regular soups".
- Sugar Free Popsicles and Crystal Light will be your best friend!
- Rest, Sip, Walk
- You will feel "normal" again!
Night OH Forum,
Catherine

Hi Im glad you are doing so well!! After reading your post I just wanted to let you know that I wasn't taking my heartburn meds either cause i didn't have any but my doctor called and told me to take them everyday for at least a month. Even if you aren't having heartburn. It helps avoid getting ulcers and other things on your new tummy. I would call your doctor office and check. Sorry just wanted to let you know :)
my doctor told me the same about the heartburn meds.....told me to take it for a month....I am 10 days post op and i have had a pretty smooth recovery...i am really not having to sip much anymore...i just wonder if that is normal....i am still on clear liquids...but i can seem to drink my water and soups with little hurt....i got my stiches out today and I hope in the next couple of days i feel a bit better on my incisions...
