Incisions are infected :(

My incisions have been looking pretty bad for the past week, but I just thought it was normal. I finally went and had a nurse take a look. She said I needed to see a Dr. I told her I would go - reluctantly - to see my surgeon, but she said no way, I could just go see a Dr at the facility where I was (i had surgery about 30 miles away). Sooo, I saw the doctor who said she can't do much for me because it's a "post op complication" and I need to see my surgeon.

The doc said it doesn't look good at all - gave me a prescription for anti-biotic pills I certainly cannot take (they are bigger than any pill ive ever seen in my life). The pharmacist said I needed to drink an 8 oz glass of water and take with food. I laughed and told him there's no way I can get this pill, 8 oz of water and FOOD all in my little stomach. He said if I don't take them with food it will irritate my stomach. It sucks because I can't take a lot of anti-biotics because of a heart condition, so the doc went through her little list and these pills were the ones she decided would work. Aye aye aye.

So, after being in the doctors all day, and a number of different co-pays and prescriptions costs later, I guess i have to go see my surgeon tomorrow.

Sorry to hear that - hope it gets on the path to healing very quickly.  You sound like you are still in good spirits, though - hang in there!

 I'm so sorry you're dealing with this complication. I wonder why so many health professionals are so ignorant when it comes to WLS? I went to find Prilosec that I could open and sprinkle in my pudding and the pharmacist looked at me like I was crazy. I expained my surgery and she said that you weren't supposed to take them apart because of the time release property. But I know good and well that a lot of people  here do on the orders of their doctors. 

Anyway, i hope you find something that will work for you. Hang in there.

I might need to be bailed out of jail after this trip tomorrow :-p   Busy?? LOL.

I am no where near a medical person but when my incision from my c-section got inflammed I used the polysporin ointment with the topical anasethetic in it.  It cleared it up within one day but it was still sore so I kept using it every 4-6 hrs to keep the incision site a bit numb.  It has an antibiotic in it as well.  But certainly look into it if you have a heart condition, I am not sure what you are allowed.  
The pills that you got, can you not crush them?  In the meantime you can clean the incisions, dry them with a blow dryer  a few times a day and keep them really clean.  I know this is hard with the summer and the heat.

I guess I'll have to figure out how to crush them...I have a little pill cutter thing but that probably won't do the trick unles i cut it into 8 pieces :-p

I got big old horse pill antibiotics with my drain infection.  I split them into quarters and swallowed with pudding - that handled the food requirement.  Good luck - oh and never trust a fart on antibiotics!

I'm allergic to a lot of antibiotics and was sick with strep 3 weeks after surgery and they gave me horse pills too but called the DR back and said I needed it in liquid form and thats how I got around it.
