hi there!  I had RNY surgery June 12th....I lost 6 lbs total during my 6 mo program....don't worry about it....my Dr said it won't affect anything.  If I could have lost weight on my own I would not have needed the surgery!  It is good to lose weight beforehand....so much changes afterwards with eating so lose what you can now before surgery.  6 weeks post op....lost 35 lbs...very tired and weak but just now starting to feel stronger and better so going to start walking.  Was too tired to start right after surgery.  Starting to clean out closet and get rid of stuff that is too big already!!  Loving life now!

Didn't lose anything since my "obligatory 6 month insurance diet and exercise program" was the same thing I had been doing for several years, just documented and "supervised" - that's why I needed the surgery! If anything, I gained some after the approval from all the eating out while going to the various pre-op appointments (we won't be able to go here for a while, so let's have [another] last supper!)

I lost 50lbs pre-op.  Best thing I could have done.  Less that I have to lose post-op.  Don't worry it is a good thing and they will consider you to be more likely to be successful with the surgery since you worked really hard to lose weight pre-op.

Thanks angieb, I think its good to loose wt before surgery too, just didnt know if the ins comp will agree, Im not sure why they require it.

I lost 65 lbs after my initial "official" weigh in. Didn't affect anything (except making my surgeon happy).

Unless your insurance co is sick and twisted (which is possible) they shouldn't penalize you for losing weight.

For me, losing weight before surgery was the best thing i've done for myself.
