Unflavored Protein Powder

Ick!  I was told I could mix the unflavored protein powder in with my Crystal Light. People told me it would dissolve and I couldn't tell it was there.  I mixed one pouch in a 52 oz. water jug and it still tasted like milky Crystal light!!!  I tried the GNC kind and the Unjury kind.  Any other suggestions?  I am worried about finding clear liquids that I can "stomach" for the two weeks after.

Thanks friends!

Dr. Ganta mentions Procel in the discharge paperwork. I cannot find it locally (I emailed Emily to ask, but she hasn't gotten back to me). I found it online. NAMC, where my surgery was, had Beneprotein on the menu. I have some of that ordered from Amazon to try since I'm getting sick of Isopure (clear liquids suck!). You can also ask your local Walgreens/CVS to order Beneprotein, but Amazon has 2 day shipping, so they won. I haven't tried it yet... I've just reached my breaking point with all the freaking sweet stuff.

I'd kinda be happy to have a protein shake at this point. LOL. I can't believe I just said that.

Ha!  Thanks!  How are you feeling?  I have been thinking about you.  I wanted to ask what Dr. Ganta about your two week pre-op liquid diet.  Believe it or not, I am going off of what information I got from Emily in October.  80% liquids and lean protein and veggies only for dinner.

Thank you for your help with the liquids...When you find out from Emily about the Procel, I would love to now.   Haven't tried that one yet.  I will order the Beneprotein just so I can try it.  Where did you get your Isopure?  I want to find it as cheaply as I can.  :-)

Thanks and hope to talk to you soon!

Yup... a shake for breakfast and lunch. Dinner is a chicken breast or portion of fish and a salad with fat free dressing or steamed veg. Carbs should be under 30, fat under 10. You can have SF jello and popsciles and broth. How are you holding up? I know it was SO hard at first, you should be just starting it.

I didn't cheat, I was pretty much on point with it... and he said my liver looked great - yes, I asked. LOL

Best price we found on Isopure was GNC (actually, $1 cheaper at Amazon), but GNC let us mix and match a 12 pack. So they won. I'm not a fan, it's SO sweet. Ugh. But it's better than anything else I found. The beneprotein and procel I think are for mainly adding to foods to boost the protein.

Note: Emily did tell me that I could protein shakes after 1 week if I'm doing okay, but that's not what he clarified in the hospital and I'm scared to mess up (self pay so if I screw this up, I get to pay for it - I'm totally parnoid) so you'll find out I'm super conservative.

Note 2: I did accidently cheat on the pre op. I had a hand full of Sun Chips. At the pool with kids, not thinking, just grabbed bag. I realized it quickly though and found it interesting that I wasn't really concisous of it. I confessed to Emily, she probably thought I was a nutter.

Your info is always helpful Sleevegirl!  I have had protein shakes and "shots" for breakfast and lunch with tons and tons of water.  I don't necessarily feel hungry and am more proud of the things I have said no to, i.e. cake, pizza, popcorn, big no-no items.  I have had a lot of chicken, mostly grilled and other lean proteins (sandwhich meat, etc.) but absolutely no more carbs than 30.  I had that my fat was supposed to be under 30 as well so that was what I was following.  Love my SF popsicles, and SF Jello.  I also love my skim milk with sugar free chocolate added in.  It's a good treat for me that's not "breaking the rules" so to speak.

I too had my blood work done last week and haven't heard anything so I guess no news is good news. I don't want any surprises when I have my pre-op appointment on Friday.

I read that you were in a great deal of pain after the surgery.  What did Ganta recommend?  Any suggestions for me?  I hope I can help someone the way you've helped me.  :-)  It's so nice to learn from your experiences. I have a recliner in my house and at my parents.  Do you recommend that I sleep in that since laying down and getting out of bed may be hard?  I know it's different for everyone and I will just need to listen to my body.

Thanks again Sleevegirl!  Hope you are feeling great!

You may be right about the fat, I don't have it written down, that may have been my personal goal. It's easy to stay under 30 or even 10 though since nothing has much fat in it that we're allowed :) I use Walden Farms dressings. They have zero calories, carbs, fat, etc. I think it's air. ;) I like the Italian one. The rest are just okay.

Yeah, mine has been muscle pain. It's been sucky. Still hurts. I wasn't prepared for that - at all. I guess it's just the swelling under that incision or when that muscle got cut through. It's nasty. He will give you a 'script at your pre op for Lortab liquid (at least he did me). It helped with the initial pains but just took the edge off of the muscle pain for me. I am now taking two Tylenol Extra EZ Tabs (easier to swallow and fits the size requirements so I don't have to cut them) a few times per day.

I don't have a recliner, but it's easier getting up from my nice comfy office chair. The first few days I slept 4-5 hours in bed and then came in my office and napped off and on in the chair. I think if you have muscle pain the recliner might be harder to get out of, but if it's just normal, maybe not. I think this is going to be a wait and see thing for you. It seems like the majority of people don't have as hard of a time as I did. Having said that, I was also carrying around 350 pounds and I'm sure that figures into it. You've got 50 less than me :)

Those shots were WAY too sweet for me. I've read that they are glycerin protein (something with a G) though so aren't a complete protein, usually not as "good" for you, but hey... if you can take them and they get you through, I say "whatever".

Good luck! I'll be thinking of you!

I will be relying on the Isopure fruit drinks and smoothies. They are the only ones that don't taste horrible to me, and a couple of them I add a bit of cranberry juice to get rid of the chemical aftertaste.

i take about 4oz of water, 2 cups of ice, unflavored scoop of protein and one pack of crystal light and put all in blender.

they taste all to me like a creamsicle. I prefer orange crystal light

Do you really have to do 2 weeks of clear liquids or two week of liquids? Big difference

I only had to do clear liquids for 3 days, which I just had to suck it up. I cannot stand isopure, but i found a clear protein from vitamin shoppe in tangerine flavor that was bearable. It think it was called cytoprotein or something like that...20 oz and 40g whey protein.
