Thanks for taking the time to post your thoughts on this...

I also identify as a food addict (a sugar addict specifically). I think it is somewhat easy for us to come to the realization that our behavior is addict-like. What seems to be much harder is to accept the treatment for addiction is abstinence. That pill is much harder to swallow. And its one we usually have to come to grips with over and over again in life.

I'm 7 months out tomorrow and am still enjoying the "honeymoon" phase thinking that those pre-op behaviors are in my past...far behind me. Yet I was traveling last week and got a takeaway for dinner and I ordered a sweet tea along with ny water. Thankfully I threw it out, but I couldn't figure out what drove me to buy it in the first place.

A couple of weeks before that I was also traveling and bought a pop tart from the vending machine...why??? Again I was able to throw it out (after a few bites) but its that old behavior still in me. Put your guard down and it sneaks up on you.

Those of us who do identify with addict behavior in regards to food need posts like these to remind us how important it is to recognize our patterns so we can continue to fight the good fight.

Thanks,
Lindsey
