I just posted a seperate thread. I had my surgery 1 month ago today. 30 pounds, 23.5 inches have already fallen off of my body.

I would absolutely do it again. I don't regret a thing. Aceves and Campos are wonderful doctors. The surgery assistent is such a goofy fun guy and he speaks perfect English as well. Upbeat and loves music.

Don't get me wrong this is surgery and it is not fun having stitches and being uncomfortable until the anesthesia wears off, but week two I really started feeling like a new woman :)

My mom still talks about the "best" tuna sandwich she has ever had...and she had it in the hospital cafeteria/cafe. Great place, you can also walk to local restaurants with no problems. My mom also walked 1.5 miles to a mall (she needed reading glasses she forgot at home) and she had a great time, meet some really nice helpful people and ate like a pig the whole time. Now that it is supper hot your friend might not be up for exploring but it is always an option. Good Luck and don't worry you will be taken care of!!

Hubby also loved the cafeteria food. Snacks and drinks in the pharmacy located in the same building. There were other places he could have gone even though it was totally safe but he said why take the chance...right? Besides, I had surgery probably on one of the hottest days of the year. Why leave a cool building, huh? lol

Oh, and I also have to mention how wonderful my "last meal" was the night before surgery at the hotel. OMG...it was so good and price was very reasonable compared to a dinner for two in an upscale hotel here in Toronto.

So, no worries. You'll both be fine! ;)

Happy in the 130's but... On to my second goal!

Awesome!

Can I ask what you had, if you remember? We might give it a go if you thought it was so great:) We are flying across the country, so I am sure we will be worn out. A good meal will be welcome, especially since I won't be able to eat real food again for so long.

Thanks so much for your posting!!

I've been as a patient when I had my VSG in September 08 and also as a companion when I took a couple of friends back a year later for their VSGs!  The cafeteria food is reasonable and excellent.  I also (as a companion) took some protein bars and high quality snacks, along with protein powder (got milk from the cafeteria) and an immersion blender----so it was all good.  The care I had with Dr. Aceves and Dr. Campos was exceptional---medical tourism at its best, and I can't speak highly enough about them.
It's honestly so hot that I didn't want to leave the hospital, so we brought a laptop and some DVDs along with magazines and books.  Don't count on alot of TV viewing unless you understand Spanish!!

LOL, well that's good to know. We were planning on lots of tv viewing while we were there. I will have to tell my mom that that's out. She was just telling me I don't need to bring a bunch of stuff along, since we will jus****ch tv and recover. Oh well, at least I know in advance to bring a good book and my i-pod.

Thanks so much for the heads up!

I had rib-eye tacos and a margarita for my "last supper" at the hotel and they were great.  Wish I'd had dessert, too, but I was too nervous about having surgery.  I think there were one or two channels in English on the TV but I went alone and mostly slept or walked the halls in the days after surgery.

Rib eye tacos!!?? Never heard of them but they sure sound good! I will have to try them. I may take in the dessert, depending on how I feel I guess.

You are so brave, going alone! I am scared to death and I am going with my mommy! Ha Ha.
I am always amazed when people do that. I guess it's determination. I think I would still go if I had no one at all who could go with me, but I would be 10 times more stressed about it. I guess it's going to a foreign country and having surgery, that might just scare me out of going by myself. I am pretty set on getting this done, but I really don't know if I would have the guts to go it alone. I am so impressed! You go girl!
On my way!!!!!!
