You are doing awesome Fay...  This is not a race... as long as we all get to the finish line.  IMO sometimes slower is better... you get to learn somethings along the way..  You got this Fay!

i've been reading that starvation mode is a myth.. i do very low calorie dieting and yes sometimes i may not lose the pounds on a particular day but typically the scale has only kept moving downward. your body has no choice but to start attacking the fat in your body when we put so little into it.  also, the starvation mode theory *may* seem to be the case for folks who have little weight to lose as opposed to those who have more weight on the body.. i've read that it doesn't really apply since we have so much stored fat that gets tapped into for burning and fuel.

increase the water intake and if you do consider adding calories at all, i would focus on more protein only (like shakes or dense) that will be more beneficial for our bodies now and in the repair process after working out .. body uses fat if we keep restoring the protein and then it won't tap into the protein sources for breakdown! there's my 2 cents .. hope that helps!

great job so far and keep working it girl !

I'll just say this first.  I also don't believe in the starvation mode.  And 1lb of muscle weighs the same as 1lb of fat.

You COULD just have 1 of those bodies that do NOT lose weight like others.  If you'd like to up your calories to accomodate your workouts then do that, but I doubt your body is "starving" although you could have one of the nomad bodies that holds onto everything you are eating.  There is just to MANY variables in this whole thing to figure out.  But 8lbs a month is great!!

Thanks Ms. Shell for reinterating what I've already come to realize about my body and it is one of the bodies that lose slower than most. I was hoping for 10 pds a week but I guess 8 pds a month is better than 8pds gained in one month right? So I will take my 8pds a month any day.....

Way better then gaining.  Trust me at 4 years out and struggling.  Get intot he good habits and let the rest take care of itself.

I'm on the fence about starvation mode having read both sides and I don't think either one of them are wrong. I believe that you do lower your metabolism slightly, but even then you still have a deficit so you still lose weight. Lyle McDonald's theory on this topic is the most compelling IMO and actually takes neither side and has a middle-ground theory that makes sense:

Having said that, you DO need more protein if you are doing that much working out. So I wouldn't say more calories, but definitely get as much protein in as you can.

i am on the fence about the starvation mode thing. i have been struggling - been 191 - 194 for a month and a half. been working out nearly every day doing something. i do zumba 3 - 4 times a week, doing the treadmill like 6 times a week for 45 minutes at 3.8 - 4.5 mph at a 7 incline, currently doing the 30 day shred dvd and i do upper body exercises 5 days a week with my patients using 10 pound weights in all planes, 3 sets of 15 for each exercise with 3 different patients (my arms are doing very nicely).

i am also staying between 600 and 800 calories. i try to stay below 40gms carbs daily. and i always get 85-120 gms of protein per day.

i cannot understand how you can take in that many calories, and burn even more calories, and NOT LOSE WEIGHT?!?! you're saying that you're losing 2 pounds a week. you should be very grateful! lol, it's not like that for everyone.

i have been religous about this thing. i wear a fitbit, log my food on 3 different sites, do all kinds of exercise, park further away, take the stairs, whatever it is that i think will contribute to losing weight, and i don't know if any of it works. maybe i should go out and have a banana split? i don't know . . .
