UPDATE, back from Joplin, 6 months out...pics and more pics..
For those who have followed my journey and those that havent I traveled to Joplin, Missouri from
June 13th-June 20th on behalf of the ASPCA to take care of the animals displaced by the May tornado..
This was a life changing experience for me..The days were long with few breaks, it was 100 degrees, I was in a zipup tyvek suit all day to not spread disease, I was staying in a trailer with sleeping units pulled out of a submarine..But I stayed hydrated and was able to work the whole time..
I was in charge of the puppies..which was essentially the cutest job but also the messiest..Often, the vet and I would be the ones left working at 8:30 at night after everyone else had finished..
The trip helped me visualize and focus more and know for sure that this is my calling, that I will be accepted into vet school in the next few months, and I will participate in more disaster responses in the future.. P.S I lost 3lbs while I was there! Woohoo!
I COULD NEVER HAVE DONE THIS WITHOUT MY VSG. PERIOD!!!!! being down 85lbs allowed me to do this..if you are on the fence or having a bad day please remember things will get better and your life can change!!!
As far as being 6 months out I am thrilled. I battled fatigue for the first 3 months post op but I now have all my energy back and more, I'm down 87 pounds, I went from a size 20 to a 12. I am a full on participant in every activity, I no longer sit on the side lines. I no longer lie about my weight. I no longer dread the scale. I am no longer addicted to food. I am happier than I have been in a decade. I love being active because it is so much easier. I try things I never would have before. I have my life back.
I try and stay positive and things are falling into place for me every day..I think having the good attitude throughout this ride has helped me be successful..
Love,
Sassy!

I know ALOT of dogs were displaced here in LA after Hurricane Katrina.. No one here really thought that the HUrricane was going to be as bad as it was.
I volunteer at my local SPCA, I am part of the off site adoptions.. It was hard for me at the shelters because knowing that if a dog was not adopted I know why he or she was not there.
You look great!!
Take Care,
Susan
