How long did it take for your incisions to be healed?

I'm 18 days post-op, and my incisions are still not healed. (my surgeon used glue after surgery) No signs of infections/nothing unusual, but I'd really like them to be gone already. They are scabbed but I'm wondering how long until they are completely healed.

I have 3 that the stitches are hanging out of. When I tried to pull it out myself, it acted like it was going to open up the incision again.

I also have one that is kinda red, but not hot to the touch or draining. Besides the one that is red, the others are healed, I would say.

I am going to my PCP tomorrow to get the stitches removed- as per my surgeon, since he is 70 miles away.

How are you feeling today, Alison? I hope better!

I'm feeling good enough to start thinking how nice it would be to go play in the ocean in this 90 degree weather! I haven't been moving much, so the pain has subsided. May attempt a walk later and see how it goes.

oh, to live close to the ocean!!! ( sigh)

I know you don't feel like it, but I think you really will feel better getting out and getting some fresh air, sunshine and a tiny bit of exercise.  Just take it easy!  Wish I could walk the beach and swim with you!

It probably took a month or more for the scabs to completely fall off.  Just let them be!

For sure, I don't want to come close to them!

I don't know what my surgeon used to close mine, but I believe there were stiches inside involved and for the first week, small staples on the outside.  Those came off and the steri-strips went on at my one week post-op appointment.

I took the steri-strips off (they were peeling past the incision line) near the end of the 3rd week and they were totally healed over... no scabs, just a thin red line of scar tissue.  That was probably around day 25 or so, so I'd say give it another week and see how they look/feel.

I had my surgery the day after you and 3 of my 5 steri-strips are still on with scabs underneath,  I was told not to do anything until they fall off on their own.  2 of the smaller sites are completely healed, meaning they are pink with a bit of a light scab.

Hey, I had this long detailed response and lost it. My computer is acting weird so I'll be short - haha.

My incisions were completely healed (no scabs just fine pink lines) on the outside last week when my doc took off what I left of the steri-strips.

I have healed differently depending on what is used to close incisions.  You maybe having a reaction to the glue or whatever.  In the past, I've had dis-solvable stitches which prolong my healing and irritate the hell out of me - real misery as the thread won't dissolve and begins to poke out and slightly catch and bug the hell out of you even after you've trimmed it.  I've had special bandaging put over steri-strips which in the heat caused me to blister .  So I'd say as long as your incisions do not look infected, they are healing at their own pace.

Thanks for the info yesterday.  It was helpful.  I went on to eat 2oz of blenderized (is that a word?  I like it :)  tuna with lite mayo.  No problems!  My sleeve has been such a good girl that it scares me.

Best to you,
Leila
