I'm miserable...i'm going to lose my mind

I had a rough time after I got out of the hospital - got dehydrated, was dizzy, bad muscle cramps, etc. I ended up in the ER, got some fluids, and then I was ok. For about a week after that, I was doing okay. I was able to drink a lot, get my protein in, walk for a bit, and I was starting to feel stronger.

Then, the pain started. I slipped and fell, and ended up with some pain in my right side. I saw my surgeon Tuesday, at which point the pain was irritating, but bearable. He told me it was a deep stitch, and I'd be fine, not to worry about it. I wasnt really happy with his response, but other people said they had the same kind of issue, so I just said OK whatever.

But, since Tuesday, the pain has become increasingly worse, and today was excrutiating, to the point where I couldn't stand, bend, reach, walk. I coudn't even get up to get some food/drink. I decided I couldn't deal with the pain. I went to Urgent Care to see mainly if I could get a better answer and/or pain meds. I get there, and the Urgent Care doc was really nice. She tried her best to figure out what the problem could be, but finally admitted she didn't know, and she would make some calls. LOW AND BEHOLD - the on call surgeon is NONE OTHER than my damn surgeon who already told me I was fine, and to deal with it.

He came to the urgent care to tell me basically that I didn't need to be there. He gave me this lecture about dealing with it, and if I wanted, he'd give me a leak test (seriously, not complaining of a leak or any related symptoms dude) but it was a waste of time. I told him I'd pass for now, but Id like an answer. Didn't get anywhere with that.  When he left, I started crying because I was in so much pain, and frustrated. He came back in a few minutes later, asked me what I was crying about, and I just looked at him like "seriously?!". He then asked me if I had any problems at home. OMG.

I guess the nurse and urgen care doc were listening so they came in after he left just to see if I was okay, but they couldn't do much.

Ultimately, I got a shot of toridal and a RX for some pain meds, but no answers. I am so frustrated with his arrogant, SOB attitude. The urgent care doc told me to file a complaint on monday and see if I can get a referred to a different surgeon for my follow up care.

This has been really hard. I don't have family around me, my friends have bailed on me for the most part,  and I just don't do well with pain. I have been trying really hard to get excited about this surgery, but everytime I start getting there, i feel like I'm back to dealing with more pain. I'm going to just sit for a couple days and see if it gets better.

OMG...same surgeon, ten days apart.  I am so sorry to hear about this and hope and pray with some good pain drugs and lots of rest, you'll feel well soon.  I would absolutely say that you should request another surgeon and follow up with someone new.  I hear the other two in the group are excellent, but who knows?  Also, and I'm sure with the pain you're dealing with, this might not help, but call our Bariatric RN.  I called her with a million questions after I got home and she walked me through a lot, but that was basic vitamin/drugs/protein talk.  It took her a little while to get back to me but reassured me that I should call with any questions or concerns.
Wish I had an answer and a magic wand to help you.  My experience with Dr. Casillas has been great so far but there is one nagging deep stitch that makes me swear like a sailor when I move funny.  Maybe it's his signature move?

Sending you some good vibes!

Whatever he's doing with his stitches, he needs to do something different. It was just funny that I didn't notice it until I took a tumble. I mean, i guess if I ripped it out, there's nothing that can be done? I just wish he would have stopped being an SOB long enough to answer my question about how long I should expect this to last, if it is a stitch issue.

It was just sad that he was training some residents tonight and that he had to have such an attitude. He said a lot of really hurtful things, and i hate to think the next generation of doctors are going to think this is okay behavior.

Hope you are doing well :)

It sounds like you are in real pain. Does he not get that? I'd find another surgeon to finish your follow up and whatever else. If you are insurance, call the insurance company for a new referral. If you are self-pay, well, then find someone else. You deserve to not deal with pain to the point of crying. What an asshole.

((HUGS)) You are worthy of more. You may have to demand it for yourself. I get that he doesn't know what's wrong, but that's no excuse for not at least giving you some pain meds and listening. Ugh. I hate when doctors ignore their patients. They actually aren't all knowing.

Thank you! I know i'm whining tonight but I'm grateful I dont have any serious complications. The dehydration issue was temporary as I'm able to drink a lot now. Hopefully this pain will resolve soon and I can get on with life :)

What an asshole!!!! I would defiantly file a complaint, and look for another surgeon. It really sucks the pain has gotten even to that point, and no one will help you. Ihad toridal in the hospital and it did help me be able to swallow with out so much pain. So hopefully that will ease any swelling there may be. Take it easy all weekend! I still have mine as well, and it do not seem to be going
away any time soon.
I keep seeing people say they were great after 2weeks. I'm still waiting for it as well.
Hang in there!

I know this wont help, and I definitely agree that your doctor sounds awful and you should find a new one, but I also have one of those stitches.  And it really really hurts.  I can even feel it when I am on the meds.  I still need help getting out of bed, sometimes even getting up, I cant bend really well cause it hurts to bad.  Just generally makes me really uncomfortable, and sometimes I get frustrated cause I do wanna cry from it.  I dont know how you are doing it on your own, and you are super brave to be going through this after care all alone.  I would still be laying in bed if it wasnt for my husband.  One thing Ive been trying to help it out though is a heating pad.  When I have the heating pad on it, I cant feel the pain.  Anything is worth a try!!

Good luck, and I hope you feel better soon!!  :)

What a jerk!  I sincerely hope you take the urgent care doctor's recommendation and file a complaint.  You deserve better care than you're getting!  He might be a A+ surgeon, but his bedside manner is reprehensible.

By the way, you might not have family around you and your "friends" may have bailed on you, but look at the number of replies you received to this post.  You are NOT alone!  You are surrounded by wonderful people who care.  Accept the outpouring of love and revel in it!

Agree with everything above, I just wanted to chime in with Doc Hollywood... I had a hard time with a deep sti*****ision too, but it resolved completely by the end of my 3rd week.  It was like someone flipped a switch; at the start of the week, I still couldn't sleep on my side, by the end of the week, I could.

I don't know what effect falling would have on it, but here's hoping yours stops being an issue sooner than later!
