Seeking Opinion on PCP - would you switch?

Yeah. It doesn't help that I'm crazy picky about doctors, I've seen three of them there. The rest are men and I won't go to a male doctor. I know. Bad experience is all. I really wish my gyno was willing to be a PCP for me. I love that woman. She keeps it real without the superiority complex. I'll be fine, just gotta find the right doc after all the dust settles :)

I find it hard to believe that your doctor doesn't have any patients that had a positive experience and a good outcome. You can either stick with her and show her it can be beneficial, or find someone else that will support you and not be so negative.

I just got medical clearance last week. My PCP is a former RN that became a doctor. She is awesome and only had wonderful, supportive things to say about my decision. She told me that she has two women who work in her office that recently had sleeves and they are doing great.

Either way, I wish you luck! I'm getting sleeved on July 6th. We should keep in touch!

*laughing* That's EXACTLY what I said... "You mean NONE of your paitients..." I think she's fully of bologna myself. I thought that was beyond weird, but whatever, right?

Definitely, I'll add you as a friend (can you believe it took me all this time to figure that out? Sheesh!)

I feel really blessed to have a physician who has been extremely supportive of me in regards to WLS.  I started seeing him about a year ago when the health care conglomoco, for which my previous doctor (whom I also liked) worked, closed his office in our rural village (not enough of a cash stream in rural America, apparently).  Anyway, at my first appointment with my new doc - Dr. Curtis Craig in Romeo, Michigan for those in the area - he asked me my preferred method of weight loss, and when I told him I was planning to have WLS, he was like, "Oh, great!  I was going to suggest it - It works VERY well!"  He's a great encourager.

So, they are out there, sleevegirl!  Good luck to you, and I hope you are able to find a physician as wonderful as mine!

Shari - thanks, sweetie! There's bound to be one around here somewhere! I mean, this is Austin. A big city. We should have options. But I swear ARC is like the conglomerate around here. In general, I seem to be happier with smaller practices (my gyno, my kid's pedi, our dentist, my allergist, my surgeon are all small practices... hmm... maybe that's part of my problem too, I just feel like cattle when I go there... interesting.)

Something you might want to do is ask your surgeon if they could recommend a good PCP.

Yup. I didn't even think about that! Duh! :) Someone else mentioned it. Feel nuts for not considering before.

I wish you were in Dallas - I'd refer you to my PCP - all my docs have been very supportive (understand, however, that I did NOT ask permission - I discussed with them after the fact). They are thrilled with my progress and both know my surgeon (and approve of my choice). I can't imagine a PCP who would not be pro-health but you deserve someone who is "in sync" with the way you see things. Best of luck to you!!

Yeah, I just kind of ignored her stuff because I didn't want to start all over and my surgeon required a clearance from my PCP in order to do the surgery. But yeah, I'll find someone. :)

Do yourself a favor and find a PCP that supports you.  Support is HUGE when getting this done for yourself.  When I first started thinking of having this done, I nervously approached my Dr. - and she was wonderful. She was and is so supportive of me - and she even recommended the surgeon who did my sleeve.

I don't know how I would have reacted had she been negative toward me having surgery.  I never thought I'd get surgery and it was a new concept for me to think about having this done and I was conflicted.  I daresay she might have influenced me not to get it done if she had really argued against it, I was so on the fence.  Thank God she was in my corner, along with my endocrinologist and my friends and family.  I am blessed.

WE support you!  So should your Dr.
