What was your post-op experience? Good and bad.

You sure know how to make a girl excited! Now I can't wait! I sure hope mine goes as well as your did! I am fairly sure it will go well but I know you can never say for sure. I know it will be worth it in the long run either way. It would be great to have it as easy as you did though.

Thanks so much for your post!

My worst part was the anesthesia, I woke up puking so they gave me phenegrin (sp?), it knocked me back out, woke up puking, phenegrin so on and so forth for about 6 hours before I could get out of recovery. But on a really awesome note I NEVER had to use any pain meds, I was sore kinda like I did 300 sit ups, but no pain ever, the whole recovery. water did not agree with me for a few weeks (puking again) so I drank tea or diluted juice and water 50/50. Walk, walk, walk and the gas will disperse gently, and sip sip sip constantly. I took 2 weeks off work but could have gone back after one. It has truly been great. Blessings on your journey!

Yeah, I am sure the anesthesia will kick my butt too. Any time I have had surgery I wake up puking too. I am going to tell them that up front so maybe they can give me something before waking me up, but we will see if they can or if it works.

Overall though it sounds like it went very well. I would be very happy with your result.

Thanks so much for your post!

I am 1 week out today. Everything went smoothly for me. I was sore and had minimal pain but I sure did use that pain pump so I would not feel anything. I also had that annoying drain and it was removed at day 6. Removing that thing hurt for "me"!. I made sure hubby went in and watched it get taken out. I felt better once it came out because it tugged a little and caused itching. Nothing bad though.

I've been working on the liquids. Still not up to 64 oz but I do soups and popcicles. I'm getting there.

I also had my GB removed with the sleeve so I am now lactose intolerant, fats, dairy etc do not stay in my system more than 5 mins. (sorry just telling the truth). Last night I went to Outback with hubby and I had French Onion Soup. I did not touch the croutons and I ate a tiny amount of cheese and that did not go well. My husband was amazed at how fast the food digests for me. I ran to the restroom before five minutes had passed.

Overall I am very pleased and I feel better each day.

Wow, you are doing great! One week out and going out to dinner with the hubby, not bad. I am sure I will be using the pain pump too. Ha Ha. Not need to feel any extra pain! Ha Ha.

That's interesting about your gallbladder removal making you lactose intolerant. I didn't know it would do that. That's kind of a bummer. I guess it will help you to lose even more weight though. I guess if you can't eat it, it won't go on your hips ha?

Well, I hope your recovery stays great. I am so happy you are doing well.

Thanks so much for your post!

Hubby is diabetic and we were out and about yesterday. He asked if it were ok to grab something so we ended up at Outback. I won't lie, it was torture looking at the menu. You brain did not get sleeved so you have this sensation that you want to eat. I had a bit of mashed potatoes and it was amazing!

I did some research earlier and found it is not lactose intolerance but a reaction to the fats in the food. I have to eat low fat foods until my liver does what the GB used to do (takes about 3 mos).

I did not have gas pain either.

I did not really have any problems other than a dry sore throat, itchy incision sites and a few days of diarrhea. I did experience sharp gas pains here and there for about a week afterwards and my stomach felt like it would clench up every time I drank or ate - it was an odd feeling - not painful just weird. GasX did not do anything to alleviate the gas pains. Walking was the only thing that helped. My husband was just sleeved 3 weeks ago - the only thing he dealt with was a dry sore throat. He woke up from anesthesia begging for water. They would not give him anything for it which was really tough. He was able to suck on a few ice chips though and that seemed to help. Oh...remember to bring chap stick or carmex...I forgot to bring some - my lips were so dry it about drove me insane!

Well, that sounds good. I think I can deal with the dry mouth if I can suck on some ice chips. I am kind of hoping I can sleep a lot the first day, just to get through it.

I wrote down chap stick on my list of things to bring.

Thanks for your post!

I was really calm and collected by the time we left for MX (I had freaked out weeks earlier :)
I had a fairly easy time of it- post op nausea from the morphine epidural was the worst part- no puking, but came close a few times. No pain at all when I woke (epidural was still working!) so day two I was more sore, but moderate to mild. I had no narcotic pain meds and dealt just fine. Flew home three days later without an issue- sore walking (like a pulled muscle) but not bad, and felt good enough to hang with my GF & show off incisions that same night- after traveling for 16hrs!

I was up to 64 oz within 5 days, and at full protein by that time- but sipping was a full time job for two weeks straight or more.. seriously, plan on living with your hand fused to the cup for a while! Now I can take fairly large swigs and get something liquid down fairly quick, but back then it was an all day deal!

I had to prop the head of my bed up as I could not lay out flat for a week, incisions pulled and I did have random zings from the muscles that were cut.. those went away after two weeks or so. I used Toradol (strong NSAID) that the hospital gave me to get home, and used it off and on for 4 days, usually at night so I'd be more comfortable.. I was able to sleep on my side after 10days or 2 weeks, with a pillow under my belly to keep it from pulling.

I had no hunger and no cravings from the moment I woke. No issues cooking for my husband while I was doing liquids.. everything smelled great but I just didn't want to eat it. Only recently have I had hunger, but it is only occasional still. I know they say they don't operate on your head, but for me it feels as if they did. I've lost that constant food-centric head-chatter that keeps saying FEED ME! It's just gone. I still love food, my tastes didn't change one bit.. and I still really enjoy my (tiny) portion!

Best thing I did for myself, I am a very happy sleever!
Good luck, your time is coming fast!
