I have a date!

I've been lurking on this site for a while now trying to decide if this surgery is for me.  Reading all your posts has inspired me to go ahead with the sleeve and change my life now before its too late.  I am sheduled for surgery on the 16th of June and I am on day three of my pre-surgery diet.  Its actually going ok.   I am quite nervous about the surgery and keep having second thoughts.  I don't know anyone else who has had weight-loss surgery so I think I will be on here a bit asking questions and getting reassurance! I have also decided not to tell many people as I have quite a judgemental and skinny family who I don't think could possibly understand or support me.  I am really worried about saggy skin and hair loss!!  And about how to explain a dramatic weight-loss to people.  Any thoughts and/or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated!

Your story sounds familiar to me, with the exception of the judgmental family (thank goodness).  I'm ready to submit my packet to insurance for approval Monday  I hope to be right behind you with the surgery, hopefully before the end of the month so that I can use my current insurance.

I've been thinking about the explanation of weight loss.  A woman at the pre-surgery session I just attended said she is going to tell people, when they ask, that she lost it with hard work.  That's true- even with the surgery, this is going to be hard work.

I have a real issue with anyone asking me about my weight, even when it's because I'm losing!  It's such a personal thing.  This is my body and I make decisions for me.  I would never walk up to someone and ask questions about their appearance (how did you get that hair color?  did you have your teeth bleached? etc.).  A compliment, sure!  But not invasive questions.

I'm ecstatic to be having surgery and grateful for the opportunity to change my life.  I just don't want to contribute to the judging and focus on weight that so many people have.  Everyone has to make choices for themselves.

I have heard about Biotin for hair loss.  I think unless you've been very overweight for a very long time, you may not have to worry about the excess skin, etc.  The great thing is, you're getting healthy!  Good for you:)

You could make everyone aware of the fact that you are on a medically supervised weight loss diet (which is true) and also maybe discuss your excercise routine so that any weight loss does not provoke alot of speculation. I myself only told a select few family members and friends. I don't like to be judged either. I had someone who does not know ask me the other day how much weight I have lost and I told her I didn't know, maybe 5 pounds?
