Can't tell when i am full

i was told by my doctor that i would feel pain/pressure up under my breatbone when i am full.  because i just came home today, i am in pain throughout my whole torso.  i can't tell if i am full, but i am certainly not hungry.  i haven't had anywhere near the amount of protein i need for the day.  should i not worry about the amount of protein for the first few days until i heal and can tell the difference?

I am 10 days out, and honestly, I did not worry abut protein until about day 5 or 6.  I was concentrating on getting liquids in which is hard enough!  You will be able to fill fullness more in a few days when you feel better.  Honestly, measure your portions.  That way, you are not over-doing it.

Your stomach is still very very swollen so you won't really be able to feel that "full" filling. Just follow orders by your doctor and do your best.

You're stomach is swollen and you won't be able to tell if you're full for awhile.  Measure everything.  This will help avoid getting sick.  One of my early warnings were the hiccups.  Good Luck!

No worries. Your nerves are on fire right after surgery and your sensations change a number of times in the first couple of weeks.

Since you just got home, just focus on drinking liquids. Your protein will come in to play later in the week. Don't gulp the liquids. Drink slowly and throughout the day.

Take one day at a time. It gets better everyday.

Today is my surgerversary - 1 year. I feel great and it has been a wonderful experience.

Best of luck to you.

Agreed with everything above.  I had ice chips and water for the first two days while I was in the hospital.  Once I got home, I had water only in 1oz "shots" every 15 minutes that day.

On day 4 (first full day home), I followed my doctor's orders with working in a protein shake the same way... 1oz every 15 minutes.  On day 5, I got in 2 protein shakes (40g each, meeting my daily requirement of 80gs) the same way.

I brought home a bunch of medicine cups from the hospital, but you can use one from NyQuil if you have that.  It really helps you monitor your intake to ensure you're getting everything in during those first few days.  It's crucial that you stay hydrated and get in your protein as quickly as possible as both will help you heal.

Good luck!

Trust me you'll figure it out eventually. I get a bit of tightness in my chest, as well as my left nostril flows and I sneeze like crazy. That's a sure sign I'm full and need to stop. I had a few days where I ignored that and almost got sick!

Everyone is different, so you'll figure out your signs.

I wish you best!
