My son is a Major Trigger!!!
My son just got home for the weekend from school and I have realized that he's a major trigger to my over eating. Is that possible that a person be a trigger? I've been thinking about it a lot and every time he's home, I gain weight or at least have to struggle a lot.
I have surgery in a month, and he'll be home for the summer. I need to get a handle on this quickly. Any suggestions?
I know how to stay away from trigger foods... but this is my son. eek

Of course he's a trigger!! He's 16, and probably an eating machine!!!! You probably bring all kinds of food you wouldn't normally eat into the house for him, then eat it with him. Is that right? He wants pizza for dinner, so that's what you make, then that ends up being your dinner too. i totally get it!
Maybe if you have your own meal plans and the groceries available for you to eat right, you won't indulge in his food choices. Unless you make him eat right with you.

talk to him about what you are doing and let him know that there will be some changes going on. like another poster said, make meal plans. for foods like pizza, i guarantee, making your own pizza with low fat cheese and meat will be less caloric than buying it. figure out how to make what he likes healthy for you. junk food, nope. if he has a problem, oh well. this is only temporary but you need to take care of you. you may be surprised by his response and he may be a wonderful support system.
hang in there.
hang in there.
My son, who turned 18 right after my surgery, is a major athlete and weight lifter. He eats a TON...and it doesn't matter what it is because he burns it off. When I made the changes around here a year ago, he was completely on board with it. First and foremost for my health, and second, he said it wouldn't hurt him to eat healthier. Now, he's a teen and still eats junk food, just not in my presence. I never really was a "junk food" person, but we ate a lot of pastas and I switched to non-processed meats with lots of fruits and veggies. He was completely on board with that!! I really hope you are as fortunate with your son as I was with mine(I also have two younger kids still at home and they mainly miss the pastas. I make more now that I've had surgery and it's no longer a temptation - couldn't eat it if I tried!!).
GOOD LUCK WITH SURGERY!! Best decision I ever made...it will change your life!!
