I need help getting back on the wagon!
I had surgery last March. Since then I have lost right under 100 pounds...which is great, but I still have around 75 pounds to go. In the fall I had kidney stones and while I was getting the stones x-rayed the dr. found a tennis ball sized tumor on my ovary. This March I had the tumor and an ovary removed. I seem to have lost motivation. I need to get my diet back on track and start excercising. If I can start strong it helps build momentum. Any suggestions on how to get things rolling quickly, so I feel successful?
Since I'm only a year out AND sitting here eating shrimp fried rice, I'm probably not the best person to advise you, but I wanted to offer you some support and ecouragement. It's never too late to start over and try again. If you feel you need to "carb detox" then the five-day pouch test (designed for RNYers) works well to get you used to the small protein portions again. Do you track your food? It may help you to use an online application (they also have a smartphone version) that will track calories, carbs, protein, and anything else you want to watch (I track sodium also). Finally and most importantly, do you exercise? I know it's tough to get started and hard to stay motivated, but exercise really does help jump-start that weight loss and improve your overall health. Good luck!
I have never done the five day pouch test. Should I just google it to find out what I can and cannot have? To answer the other questions, I am not tracking my food or exercising. Sadly, I am so far off the wagon I cannot even see it in the distance! The exercising thing is more about hating looking like a loser than the actual exercising. I actually enjoy the exercising once I am there, but I dread it like crazy before. You are right, I need to just start. It is time for me to suck it up! Thanks for the encouragement and the tough questions, I needed it.
Yep, go ahead and google it. There's a website and it's pretty simple to follow.
I know how you feel about exercising. I hate going to the gym, but once I'm there, it's ok. Plus, you know that people there aren't looking at you. They're too busy worrying about whether or not THEY look like losers! Is there someone in your life who can encourage you? Maybe go to the gym or for a walk after dinner with you? Lifestyle changes are the hardest thing to do, but if you really want to get back on track, it's totally doable. If you're that far away from your plan, you can proceed in either of two ways. Either shock your system, detox, and go back to the strict plan (IF you think you will stay on it after quitting cold turkey), or you can slowly make one small change per day or per week, and gently move back into that healthy direction. You know yourself better than anyone, and so you know what you'll stick to. Even if you make one small change like getting active again, you should see results, and that may help give you the motivation you need to continue!

Thanks, you are right it looks pretty simple. I think I need quick, pretty big results to help get me motivated. So I am going for the 5 day pouch test. I am a school counselor so I am off for 7 weeks this summer. I really want to get my head straight so I can make good use of my time. I want to lose 40 pounds by September 1, so I have a lot of work to do. Thanks again for the encouragement!

Thanks! You are right, I knew I needed to start immediately, so today I started my day today with a protein shake and from then on have only had small protein packed meals and some fruit. It was a good day and I didn't mind the changes. The next steps are to make sure I get my water in and start exercising. I will definitely check in more on the site. I have a bad habit of avoiding it when I feel like I am not doing well. I clearly have the process backwards! Thanks for all the kind words, I appreciate it!
