I know you guys love the sleeve anyone for the rny?
Thank You for this reply. I have been flip floppong between the sleeve and RYN. I ws orgignaly going to have the sleeve no questions asked, however I was concerned that I was not going to loose enough weight. Now after reading your post you have re-confirmed why I wanted the sleeve in the first place. i am lucky my insurance company will ocver both no questions asked.
Some times things appear for us in just the right time. Thank You and may you be filled with peace.

these are all really great replies.....
I think for me, If I was to choose it was going to be lapband; but my doctor asked me about vsg and I researched it. Why I didn't consider rny was really the malabsorbotion and the fact you can't eat anything.
But, now, I know lapband would not have worked ....it would of drove me nuts to have to constant reminder of it with fills and unfills....my sister had it and is miserable. At least with vsg I have started the weight loss process and if I need to do more I could opt for rny or ds.
However, if I was to recommend a revision for my sister, I would almost suggest rny....because she doesn't care about eating 'what ever she wants'....she just wants to lose the weight. I also feel like our genetic make-up is to hold on to all calories...so maybe malabsorption would be good.
It is obvously an individual decision, research, research and research. Maybe the decsion you make will give you the results you want....and maybe not, like my sister. Good luck on your decision.

I generally advocate DS over RNY if you're going for a malabsorptive procedure. But I recently had a well-established medical professional tell me that the DS is a "mouth to anus" bypass - very serious, very high risk of complications from deficiencies down the line, only about 3-4 surgeons in the US truly capable of doing it (although there are many others who WILL), and should really be reserved only for the SMOs who are facing life-threatening weight-related issues. Even the DSers on OH will stress how critical it is to keep up with all your supplements and get your bloodwork done on a regular basis.
RNY has many of the same deficiency issues, although not as severe. To me, the biggest downside of the RNY is that the malabsorptive part of it only lasts for a few years - you'll start absorbing calories again, but other nutrients still suffer from the bypass.
All of this is a personal decision. I couldn't tolerate the idea of any kind of bypass and didn't like the supplement maintenance involved. I have 2 co-workers who had the bypass and are doing great. So it's really just a personal preference.
Best of luck with your appeal.

my sister had RNY, she has gained most of her weight back, she has to have blood transfusions ever few months, 7 yrs later she still dumps when eating a little something with sugar, constantly throws up!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE MY SLEEVE!!!! with her problems......................no way was i having the rny done!!!!!!!!!!!
I was just recently going through the same thing. I was going to do the sleeve but I have now changed my mind and I am doing the RNY. My date is 6/27/11. I have been going up and down and it seems to center around stress. When you are stressed your body puts out cortisol and your body stores it like sugar. It is key to stay stress free during wheight loss. It's hard. Temptaions are all over the place. I have faith that you will get through this. Just by you reaching out is proof that you are headed in the right direction. I have been doing an exercise called Qi Gong. It is on DVD and it is changing my life in so many ways. It is physical and mental. It is amazaing how my stress level has gone down. My depression symptoms are extreamly decreased.
Keep up the good work. The answers will come to you all. I also believe we all go through ups and downs in this journey.
Good luck, I wish you Peace.

I geuss it was that I was affraid to get the sleeve and not loose enough weight. I know I would still have to exercise and diet but I was scared that after the intial weight that comes off I still would be over weight.
I just read one of your replys and I am now back up in the air. All of the points that were made about the sleeve are so true. I have meet some many woman that have had the by-pass that have gained it back, developed addiction issues or are very ill.
I am in the same boat as you are in now. I have been struggling with this decision for a few weeks now. I still have time to change my mind.
I would love to keep in contact with you. I am right where you are. It's not a decision to take lightly. That is why I have been flip flopping. This is major stuff and it is permenet.
May you find peace through out your journey and may your answers you need come to you.
