I'd watch the carbs! I don't care if my doc or NUT say carbs are OK. I disagree. Eat what you think you should be eating in the amounts that seem sensible and leave the carbs out.

This is where my selective hearing comes in. I ignore the stuff that doesn't make sense. They can talk all they want but when they're wrong, I ignore what they say. Don't email back - just ignore him.

Ditto what Wert said.

Eat all those carbs and you're never going to get out of your stall or lose much weight. My surgeons plan calls for limiting carbs to less than 40 grams per day. This is what I did and I've lost all my excess weight, have not stalled and have maintained at the same weight for a year.

I'm in maintenance and I continue to limit carbs. I don't eat rice, pasta, potato or a lot of bread. Carbs make me crave more carbs. I feel better and have more energy when I concentrate on protein.

Like Wert, I would exercise "selective hearing" when the advice given makes no sense.

I've done A LOT  of reading and haven't seen anything about lots of carbs.  I've heard lots of protein.  I'd SERIOUSLY ask other people and other doctors.  Sounds odd to me.

My doctor does not restrict carbs - BUT - does not recommend white rice, pasta, white bread, etc. I would surely call for clarification.

I would call the doctor back to clarify. Although guidelines seem to vary, most will tell you that they were told to stay away from bread, rice and pasta. Did your surgeon give you a protein/fluid/carb requirements daily?

You might want to compare/review food plans from other sources just to see the differences.
See this website. It's posted a couple of pages back. Go to VSG Diet Manuals.

I would suggest you develop a new normal. Particularly if bread, pasta, etc has been an issue in the past. If you focus on eating your protein first, then veggies you won't have room for much else.
You can prepare 4 oz but don't force it.   Eat until you're satisfied rather than full. That may take a little trial and error to find that spot.

In my opinion, focus on meeting your 50g protein (or more) and 64 fluids (or more).
I'm not telling you not to follow your surgeons advise....maybe discuss it further with your surgeon/NUT.
