Ok, has anyone out there experienced extreme hair loss during their extreme weight loss? I'm 5 months out from surgery and have lost 75lbs. I know that hair loss is normal, but I'm just wondering has anyone ever had a bald spot or anything? I'm getting about 60 grams of protein (on a good day) and dr. says that hair loss is normal. I just want to make sure that the amount of hair loss I'm losing is normal. I want to be skinny, but NOT BALD!!! LOL!! Thanks, everyone!!

I definitely lost alot of hair, and it really started thinning in one area at the top of my head.  I just styled my hair different, and cut it short..to avoid all the brushing (and pulling out of hair).  I don't believe anyone else noticed the hair loss, but I did.  No bald spots though.  I started losing it at about 3 mths postop, and it stopped around 7-8 mths postop.  Now I have lots of new hair growth.  Don't worry...I don't think I've ever seen anyone on here bald from their hair loss!

Hair loss is normal.  Getting in enough protein will NOT make it so you keep your hair, if you are one of us who is just slated to lose your hair.  Its like folks who get cold, or folks who stay nauseous, or lose 3 shoe sizes, it happens for some, but not for all and all you can do is roll with the changes.

In 2 years of being registered and 2 previous years of lurking, I have not seen/heard from a bald person yet.  I have heard some folks wish they could lose some hair if it would get them to goal, but you know.

You do what you can and you deal with the rest.

I lost half of my hair by volume. It all grew back. I started losing hair around 3.5 months out, and it lasted a solid 3 months. Good thing was I had new growth and tiny baby hairs coming in long before the shedding every stopped. My hair was extremely thin on top, and I had to get creative with styling and layers. I was nowhere close to being bald.

Well, I'm in the midst of what SEEMS like losing all my hair. LOL! Everytime I shower my hair comes out in like handfuls. It's not fun, but I'm not bald... Nor do I see that I will be bald or have a bald spot. I went through radiatio therapy 2 years ago. THAT was hair loss and I still didn't go bald, but I did have a big bald spot along the top of my head. But, the hair that fell out was 10 times worse (at least) than my VSG hair loss. I'll take the hair loss if I can keep the new body!!

I am thankful to be healthier, too! Glad to hear that you came through your radiation!! My mom had breast cancer about 13 years ago. She had chemo and radiation and lost the hair all over her body - head, eyelashes - everywhere!! Losing a little hair for a new bod is a fair trade off.
