4 weeks out....stall
Which leads me to my next question. I had surgery at 384, and as of this morning, one day short of 4 weeks out, I am down 28 to 356. On that big a body, does 28 pounds in 4 weeks seem a little slow, or is that acceptable loss? I'm not complaining. As long as the scale mostly keeps heading in the right direction (accepting the stall as part of it too), should I not worry too much about speed and numbers?
Diet wise I am getting better each day. Still struggling to get all my protein as since surgery I absolutely DESPISE the protein shakes. WAY too seet for me, so I am trying hard to eat all my protein. Yesterday I ended at 770 calories, 14 g of fat, and 48 g of protein. My daily protein goal is 70, so I need to keep working at that to get it higher. Water intake is going good. Some days I get busy and end up a little low, but still in the 50+ range. But most days I am at 70-80 oz.
One other question, how bad do SOME carbs hurt? Not talking a lot, but I have been having some crackers with some meat and cheese just for some texture. For example, yesterday I had 4 club crackers with a slice of cheese each (small slices, like one of the 1/4 pound bricks of cheddar at the store), and a 1/2 slice of turkey deli meat each. Add in 2 tbsp of egg salad and that was my lunch. Total for the lunch was about 250 calories, 12 g of fat, about 14 g of protein, and 9 g of carbs (all from the crackers). I had a total of about 20 g of carbs for the day. Is this too much?
I'm not a fan of the protein shake eaither but you have to have one a day to get your protein. Blend them with some frozen berries and add Splenda. Costo sells a really good tasting protein shake Premier and Amazon sells it too.

Have you tried the Greek Yogurt? You have to check the label but some have over 20 grams of protein per serving. The Trader Joe's plain 0% fat has 21 grams of protein in a serving. One serving will take you 2 meals to eat. I add Spleanda and True lemon or True lime.
You can also try a protein bar. There are some that are soft but be careful of the nuts. If you nibble on one a day you will get an extra 20 grams of protein.
I've been having some multigrain cereal and whole wheat crackers...I think that is the reason for my stall. The milk and cereal go down way to easy and I'm able to have more than I should. Instead of the crackers and egg salad I'm going to put some egg salad in a piece of lettuce instead.
Good luck to you!

Wildfan, we had surgery on the same date. Congrats on the success of your first four weeks. Sorry to read that you've stalled. I've been stalled since April 22nd so I may only have 10 days of weight loss in my first month! Fortunately, I changed my eating habits in January so I can look at the change from then till now and see that I've made significant progress. I would encourage you to also look at the big picture so you don't get discouraged. Stalls are just part of the journey.
There's a tool on OH that may interest you and assure you that losing 28lbs in your first month has you on the path to success:

We have similar starting weights, and yes, 28 in the first month is fantastic. I'm averaging about 18/month. You're well on your way. As for carbs, total elimination is the only way for me. Otherwise I over-indulge. But if you can consume complex carbs and keep them from affecting your loss, do whatever works for you. 20 g of carbs isn't bad at all. Just stay away from white flour & sugar.
Keep going strong. Don't let the stall get you down. You're doing great.
Current weight: 170 lbs.
Once I reach goal, this cow will be killed & eaten... 2 ounces at a time.
Total includes 56 lbs. lost on 2-month low carb pre-op diet. Start date 9/13/10.
Keep up the good work!!!
