This is Tough: Heavyweight Call to Arms
Hey, party people. I hope you're all doing well. I couldn't seem to post on here a while for some reason. My work computer needed an update, so I'm in business now. I wanted to share this post I wrote on a gastric sleeve forum. I hope it helps some of you.
I just completed a blog post that was like cutting teeth. I had to be really honest with myself concerning this journey.
I must tell anyone considering this surgery (especially if you're 350+ lbs), it's a fight. You will lose weight initially because your body will react to having to make due with so much less. For a lot of people, this is enough. They lose 100 lbs and it makes a HUGE difference.
I started at 565 and I now weigh 425...a hard fought 425, at that. Some people can't even tell I've lost weight. I can because I feel better and I know I look different. The outward change just isn't drastic. Understand this. I am SO MUCH healthier than I was a few months ago. I shop without the electric cart. I can walk much further. Buildings don't see as large anymore. I can't dilly-dally, but I can get what I need to get done without having to sit or ride the cart. That's progress. People don't know that when they see me. They just see a large woman walking around. They just don't know and I can't expect them to.
My point in all of this is that this is the hardest thing I've ever had to do. Anyone who's had weight loss surgery knows it's not walk in the park, but we heavyweights have to commit to this for the long haul, even through the maintenance period. We have to do whatever it takes to never go back to where we were. Had it not been for surgery, I'd likely have been dead.
I'm here for you guys if you need me. I need you to be here for me, too.
Let's connect here, on FB, Twitter, on my blog, your blog, email...whatever.

You sound like you are well on your way and congratulations on the weight loss. You know how far you have come and eventually everyone will be able to tell. Just not having to ride in the cart to shop is a big step and soon you will be able to walk further and futher. One of the gals here lost 200 llbs her first year and she looks totally different. It takes working the program one day at a time and one pound at a time so keep up the great work.
Hugs to you, Mary K.

Good for you Angel. I'm glad to hear about your progress. I can totally relate to the fact that people don't know how much you already have lost, they only see the present. I still feel self concious because people that don't know me, still may see a slightly overweight lady. Not knowing that I have lost 80+lbs already. So we'll keep pressing onward and downward (quote from Jeani).

Nice to hear from you. So happy with your progress so far. I can relate to noone noticing. I started out at 354 lbs..and it took a good 100 lb loss before I started getting comments from people. Just keep plugging away at it..you'll eventually get to where you want to be.
You can find me on Facebook under the name "Dawn VSG"..feel free to add me..you or anyone else.

I think we all have to be hardcore honest with ourselves... I know that when I was told I was borderline diabetic and was already on cholesterol and blood pressure meds, it scared the hell outta me! I was a lightweight at "only" 224 pounds, but had been yo-yoing up to 246 and back down for years!! It is an amazing gift (no matter how difficult) to drop 140 pounds!! Congratulations!! No, it's not a walk in the park, but it isn't a ride on the scooter in the grocery store, either!! This was a great post! Keep up the good work, honey!
