Clear liquid stage- broth is OUT
Ive had greek yogurt, cottage cheese and tonight i pureed some seasoned fish. I was told that there is protein in milk. I have chosen to start with lactose free milk and I have soy milk in the frig as well. Those two have protein in them and when I have some, I count the protein. Fish, greek yogurt and cottage cheese, all are high in protein but I still get most of my protein from shakes. I was told to drink 3 per day but 2 give me 66grams and when I add up what I am getting in from my "food" intake. Today I am at 78 and was told to shoot for 60 - 80. I am worried if I had a 3rd shake it would be too much.
I am not getting in the 64 oz of fluids yet. Yesterday I was at 49oz and today so far, I am at 39. Im going to have tea with friends this evening so I will be able to sip sip sip some more for today.
Your diet may be a little different than mine. I was told to be on a pureed diet. Anything mushy - no distinct pieces.

I never had to do clear liquids - sorry! The only things I can think of are popsicles and jello. Tea to drink. My surgeon gave me a food list for every stage in his plan.Surgery Date: 4/27/11 Dr. Aceves

Dr Aceves wants his patients on CLEAR liquids (no milk) for the first 10 days, then full liquids for another 10 days, which is when you can add in your milk, and then purees for 10 days, and then soft foods for 10 days, if I remember correctly. You need to follow his guidelines--he made them for a reason. It doesn't matter what others do--they are following their surgeons' rules. Don't worry about protein right now, just get in your fluids. Fruit juices, gatorade, water (if you can tolerate it), popsicles, they all count toward your fluid goals.

OK, thanks. That was the hard part. Trying to figure out what I could mix protein with that would not gag me. I plan to follow his orders but I am jealous of others that can eat mushies right away but I would not even dare try that yet since I can feel my water so much. Think I definetely need more time before I try anything else!

Could you do your protein mix in water, add some SF Torani/DaVinci flavoring (or some extract) and then blend? Would that meet your stage 1 requirement?
Also, if you're talking about broth as in the cubes or out of a carton, instead try a canned soup and strain out the chunks. Perhaps that would be better. (Only if it works on your plan.)
Good luck...it gets easier.
