My doctor said I was not going to have one is that normal?  Has anyone else not gotten one?

Just had sx on Wednesday and came home today.  No drains, no catheter. five little slit marks, no sutures either. He puts a glue on the enter areas.

Hey Maxie! Where in PA are you? My Dr said that I would have a catheter while I was in the hospital, but no drain... I guess each Dr has their preferences.

I had a drain while I was in the hospital.  The nurse took it out just before discharging me.  I was one of the lucky ones that didn't have to come home with it.

I came out of surgery and found, to my surprise, that I didn't have a drain.  Most of the people in my surgery center's support group meetings had drains, so I was puzzled.  I asked my surgeon why I didn't have drains, and he said, "Because you didn't need them."  Lol, you have to love his logical answer.  I had a catheter, but only until I was up and moving around in a few hours.  It wasn't painful at all, not even when the nurse removed it.  I would have much rather had the catheter than to have wet the bed in my morphine-induced state immediately after surgery.
