16 Days Post-Op: Struggling & Frustrated

16 days post-op and I'm down 45lbs BUT I am having the hardest time getting hardly anything in. I'll be the first to say, this mushy stage is frickin' disgusting. I hate eating these blended foods and it's gotten to the point where I can go an entire day just on water because of it. The protein shakes that I could drink straight down pre-op no longer have the same taste and does NOT sit well on my stomach. I have tried several different kinds and they all have the same effect. Mashed potatoes and tilapia are two things that I don't blend and they go down and stay down. However, I really don't want to become dependent on starches and carbs. I'm not sure what to do...I'm still losing pounds but I'm not on the right track and it's getting to be frustrating!

Hey sweetie,  sorry you are struggling but it really does get much better about a month out so half way there then its all good.  I ate a lot of scrambled eggs with cheese,   egg/tuna/chicken salad made with mayo,  no raw veggies yet.   Also ate a lot of turkey chili,  wendy's chili,  beans and chesse, turkey meatballs with spaghetti sauce.    Try to eat protein rich foods.  Here are some links to food guidelines i found very helpful.  good luck   you'll be very glad you did this  :o) jeani

Hang in there toofly21.  Sleeve Gennie thanks for the links and the food ideas. I will be having the sleeve I think sometime in October or November this years  I have the 12 weeks of options classes to take first. That ends in July, then surgery will be booked.

Thanks so much for these links! It's confusing...one minute I love my sleeve, the next I'm questioning if it was the right decision.....I'll be glad when this passes!

It was the right decision,  just give yourself a little time for your body to heal and for you to get used to your new lifestyle.  It's great a little further out  :o) jeani

HOLY MOLY!!!
45 pounds in 16 days? That is AWESOME!
I have yet to go through what you are going through but that sucks.
I am worried about "mushies" as well, I can't imagine eating cream soup all the time.
What about pudding?
I also hear that certain non cream soups can be blended and taste pretty good - like tortilla soup.
I also understand that most protein (meat) is pretty much mushed or pureed if you chew the **** out of it before swallowing.
There's always deviled or scrambled eggs?
Refried beans?

Good luck!

What about yogurt ? That's a great source of protien. Can't you have that? I am hoping I can eat that.

I stick whatever my family is having in the little food processor and mushify it, adding some kind of liquid so it blends better, usually I use cream soup or milk or water as the liquid.  Last night I put in a little bit of hamburger patty and cream of mushroom soup, it was good!  Tonight it was the inside of a couple of crab rangoons from Chinese takeout, some leftover grilled chicken, and a little milk.  It was yummy!  Eggs are really easy on my tummy right now, I scramble an egg until it is just cooked- still very soft, sometimes add a slice of cheese, or puree it with a couple of slices of deli ham.  I am trying my hardest to get protein from food because I can't stand protein drinks.  I got some Greek yogurt, don't love it but it's okay and goes down easy.  I had pintos and cheese from taco bell.  My husband made an amazing pork roast in our smoker, I pureed some with baked beans with in with a little broth, yummy!  My kids are horrified that I am always making "meat smoothies" and the food doesn't always look great, but the tastes are the same when it is pureed for the most part.

You gotta try to get in some food. You are losing now but eventually lack of food can start to catch up with you. Ditch the potatoes if you are worried and stick to the soft tilapia or other soft fish. There are a million kinds of cheeses try a few different kinds, they have good protein and calcium (light mini babybel, cottage cheese, light string cheese, cheddar, mozzarella).

Thanks everyone for the GREAT suggestions! My NUT warned me to stay away from the 'Cream of' soups....and I haven't tried scrambled eggs yet although I can have them. Tomorrow I am going to try to get in as much protein as possible!
