Cardiologist
Saw my cardiologist, yesterday he said he sees no reason why I cant have a VSG but.... he does not feel I need it...really are you kidding me, he said I think you can do this on your own... does he really think I would have been knocking on 300lbs at 50yrs old if I can do this on my own
It did kind of mess with my head for just a little while. talked with my hub about it, he said I really don't think its his business to make judgements like that hes only seen you 3 times, I watched you deal with this for 30 years, and I think if you think its right for you do it.(hes great)
wow I hope he does not put something like that in his report. can I be denied if he does? I HOPE NOT

You know, I sometimes think about the two heart procedures I had - the first 20 years ago and the second about 10 years back - 2 stents to unplug blockages - no heart attacks. I was lucky that I caught both of them in time - and the miracle of surgery saved my life.
Fast forward to last year - I'm 65, now with diabetes, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, etc., and I've balooned to 425 lbs., but no heart issues that are apparent. I discover that there's another miracle surgery that can help me help myself to save my sorry ass, health-wise. I opt for the program and buy into the whole package - quit booze 2 mos. pre-op, started serious exercising at the same time and follow the nutrition program to the letter.
I'm 4.5 mos. post-op and I've dropped 115 lbs. - I walk 3 fast miles daily as my minimum exercise; to burn 500 cal. I rarely think about my heart any more - but I must admit it does swell with pride when I think about what I've done for myself and all those who love me.
Oh, your cardiologist, - if and when you discuss this with him again - I might suggest you tell him that you "are doing this on your own." VSG is sort of like a stent - it changes the internal problem, but the rest of it is up to the individual - good heart health is dependent on exercise, the same as good weight-control. Or maybe he's just a dick-head who hasn't kept pace with modern medicine.
Good luck - VSG can be a life-changing, life-improving, and life-saving opportunity for many of us. Pop-Pop

Last year I got denied partially because the way my primary physician represented me. I had to fight him; send faxes every day to get him to sign letter of need, including showing up at his office twice in person. Now mind you he did the surgery clearance and charged for that. Just refused at the end to give me a medical letter of need.
I was devastated for five months I had been jumping through hoops... I found out doctors often get penalized for recommending too many surgeries.
Now I have switched my primary another 6 months has passed and I have a OR date of 26th.
I try my best to move on now days...If I get any kind of redflag from a doctor I move on to the next.
There was a time when I felt too timid to even get a second opion. Now I get a third.... lol
sometimes a 4th
Best of luck don't let this get to you!!!!!!
If anything happens change doctors and resubmit....

Hey there......so glad that you came out clean with the cardiac testing!!! Sorry that he messed with your mindset but you are strong and will do what is right for you. Your husband is right...he does not know you and if he truly listened to you he would have sent you home with well wishes of success which you will achieve without his blessing!! Don't give up!!
Your caridologist doesn't have a dog in this fight. Ignore him.
I got a good bit of the "you really don't need this" unwanted advice while I was going thru all my pre-approval testing. I'm a lightweight and several medical people - nurses, techs, staff who were my weight or more - tell me I didn't need it. I just told them I "well, I'm doing it" and let them deal with it the best they could. I know what I need.
