I haven't posted in awhile on this site
Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to say that I have sleeve surgery 2 1/2 years ago and it was done by Dr. Aceves. I know for a fact that because of surgery, my entire life has changed. I told him one time that he changed my life. He said "no" I gave you the tool and you have changed your life. He was so right in that statement I have done the work with the tool he gave me--Thank you Dr. Aceves. You can get the surgery, but you need to make a lifestyle change to become successful. It takes a lot of work and effort on your part to make things happen. Dr. Aceves and his team are fantastic. They were there every step of the way for me. I would NEVER consider having this surgery with anyone but him. If I lived closer to him, I would make him my Primary Care Doctor in a heartbeat!!!! From the moment I stepped into the hospital to the day I left I received excellent and professional and loving care from Dr. Aceves to the cleaning people. Everyone has such miss conceptions of what surgery is like in Mexico--all I can speak to is Dr. Aceves and his hospital. This surgery was done in a full hospital and NOT a clinic. I asked all kinds of questions and they take the time to make sure you have all your answers before you have the surgery. I saw 2 doctors 3 times a day while I was there. Tell me the last time you were in a US hospital that you saw a doctor 3 times a day?????
I am a success story-- I was 63 years old when I had the surgery, and I am 65 now. I started out at 225 pounds and I now weigh 120. I have kept the weight off. It takes work on my part, this is NOT a magical cure--it just doesn't melt off you. I made a lifestyle change and I love how I feel and look now. I exercise (walking) is the best form of exercise for me. I now know that I will NEVER gain this weight back again. I love eating healthy, it taste and feels good. I never feel deprived when it comes to eating. I am not perfect, I have a cookie or a small taste of a desert now and then, but not everyday (and I said small). And I know how to burn the extra calories if I eat something that I don't normally eat.
If you have any questions about the sleeve or surgery or Dr Aceves and his hospital or just want to talk please contact me. Just remember the first month of sleeve surgery is the hardest month. It just keeps getting better each month. You can do anything for 30 days, and once you see the weight starting to come off it gets a whole lot easier.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Your post reminds me that I need to think long-term as well as short-term. I am almost 2 weeks out and I've been thinking to myself "Should I have lost more weight? Am I doing something wrong?" It hasn't been a month and I'm already questioning what I'm doing though I am following the plan. I definitely can't wait til I can get back in the gym, it's a great stress reliever for me. So thanks for taking the time to share your story. It's appreciated.
Hi,
We all lose weight at different speeds. At first it comes off pretty easy. I also in the 1st month had 9 days where I didn't lose anything--that is pretty normal.
I am here to help and answer questions if you have any. It is always nice to have some support. I had some great people who helped me. So I am paying it forward now.
I hope we can stay in touch.
Take care,
Suzanne

Hi,
I had VSG surgery with Dr Aceves a little over two years ago, in March of 2009. I am 5'2" and currently weigh 115#. I am sitting in the Hampton Inn in Monterrey, Mexico currently recovering from some Plastics. I agree, Dr Aceves gave me a great tool. For me, keeping the weight off has been effortless, in fact, I have to make sure I eat enough these days to stay in the 115-120 range where I am comfortable. I had no complications after my VSG, and I flew to Mexico by myself. I am having no problems after my plastics, and again, came here by myself, and only still here because Dr. Sauceda insists I stay the week. But, I feel ready to fly out now, and I had my surgery on Monday. I love my Mexican doctors. They are very attentive. Dr Sauceda has sent his nurse to check on my even though I told him I can change my own dressings, (I am an RN), and have usually showered and done everything by the time she gets here. Dr Sauceda has been by several times to check on me, and gave me his cell number. But, I'm fine. Just ready to get back home. I wish I lived closer because I would love to find a Mexican doctor to be my primary care. These doctors exemplify what patient care should be. Kudos to them.
