lookin' for VSG post-ops!! to "chime" in Would you do this again??
I would do it again in a heartbeat. These forums are rather like a support group for me (I honestly didn't 'click' with the local support group, though I gave it a chance). Here is the one place I KNOW I can talk to or read about others going through THE EXACT SAME thing as I am. Where I know for a fact SOMEONE understands what I'm going through, even if their experiences differ.
As for life. I'm MUCH, MUCH more active than I used to be. At 5'3" and 345 pounds, I was in near constant back pain, had a hard time walking up and down the stairs in my house (I can't quite run up them now but I can go up both flights of stairs from basement to top floor without getting out of breath or having to stop in the middle), didn't feel like going out or going anywhere, cancelled out a lot on social plans, etc. Now my friends know I'm not going to flake out on them, I'm simply enjoying life a lot more. Just because I post or read here doesn't mean I'm not happy with my sleeve or that I have no life or I'm not out enjoying life.
I didn't see the original post but, frankly, it sounds like someone who just wanted to stir up drama. *shrugs*

I agree about the local support group. There are only two options: Band or RNY because not many people have the sleeve yet. So I'm all, where do I belong???? I belong here!On April 2, 2011 at 9:24 PM Pacific Time, jimbovsg wrote:

I'm nearly 8 mos. out and would absolutely do it again. I'll be going on a cruise in a couple months (pre-op, no way, too much pain and disability!), and in between I just enjoy my thin(ner) life day-to-day. Work-home-work-home, weekend running around. But always I check OH, usually at least once a day.
The question "why are we still here", I think, assumes that we can have surgery and then just get on with life as we lived it before. And maybe some people CAN do that. To me, though, if I expect to make a success of this surgery, I have to commit to a huge lifestyle change, practically a 180 from what I was doing before. And I have NO IDEA how to do that on my own! (In OA, there's a saying: "My best thinking got me to XXX pounds.") We get some direction from our surgeons on what to do/what not to do, but the support and guidance of our peers is simply invaluable. So I come here and depend on those who've gone before. And as you say, we can help blaze the path for those who come after.
Great thread!
