GOAL! - And How I Got There...

GM, I could have written this myself, 'cept my overweight days began in elementary school. I remember standing in my grandmother's kitchen, asking her how many calories were in a piece of cheese I was holding.  No eight-year-old should have to worry about that.

My surgery is April 4th (Monday week) and your post was most timely and highly inspiring.  Although I have quite a few years on you, I have lived my life 'fit and fat' and never heard or seen it written as such.

My weight rarely kept me from doing anything I wanted to do physically, but it took great effort.  Much more so than people of normal weight.  I literally do not know what it feels like to be comfortable in clothes during the summer. I have 100 pounds to lose and am ready to get moving on it.

Thank you for your insight and for sharing it with those of us who are facing the struggle, and are in it. You've given me hope, desire, and more incentive to 'git er done!'

You are truly an inspiration.

I am happy to say that I am good friends with greenemachine. I see her frequently and have watched her transform from a caterpillar to a gorgeous butterfly inside and out!

Thank you greenmachine for the encouragment you have given to me and for the encouragement for those here on OH. You are the real deal!!

I look forward to joining you on that losers bench in the very near future!

Wow-I didn't expect such a response to my post!  I'm so glad it touched so many folks, despite my candidness (got that from Old Medic:))

Like I said, we're all in this together and if we can help eachother, let's do it.  That's why this forum is so awesome.  Thank you all for your kind words (especially you peachnptc:)) and please let me know if I can help anyone at all!

Thank you for being so candid. I am especially glad to hear that you went back to work so quickly. I am pre-op, and that was one of my biggest concerns. I know when my time comes, I will listen to my bodies signals and then pick a date to start working again after surgery. But, I thought I was the only one that wanted to get back to work as soon as possible (not for the paycheck, but for my sanity). Sitting at home, bored, takes me straight to the fridge, although, I am trying hard to get that under control before surgery...wish me luck. Thanks again...great info for pre-ops!!

Hey there!

Agree with you 99%! You have followed the guidelines and you are a sleeve success story!

But, for going back to work, I waited for four weeks and still ended up with a hernia. I work in health care and have to do a lot of lifting, pulling, and pushing. I would of never been able to go back that early. But, then again, I wasn't living with a normal recovery. My body was fighting a leak.

Keep up the great work!

Hugs

Congratulations on your remarkable success    , and thanks for writing and sharing a GREAT post!
It always helps to read the experiences of those who have gone through what I am about to, and done well because it gives me some encouragement that I need.

Best wishes as you continue with the maintenance phase, since that is never-ending...  Viv
