I was reading someone else's post (and didn't want to hijack it). For those that had bad nausea after surgery, was this your first surgery? If not, did you have nausea with the other surgeries?

Just trying to see if there's any pattern.
Trying to build a better life, one good choice at a time.

Isn't there a natural herb that helps with nausea? Seems like I heard of it sometime.

i know peppermint is supposed to help. I went and bought some peppermint tea to use post op but a week ago was feeling nauseous and tried it out. Sure enough it did seem to help quite a bit. Hope it will do the same post op :)

ginger!! there are ginger chews (which you can suck on), ginger gum, ginger syrup. or peppermint does help too..........

the VSG was my 11th surgery, and yes, i got nausea with every single one. i usually wake up from anesthesia with nasty dry heaves. i did not with my VSG- it was the first time i did not. but i made a point to tell the anesthesiologist SEVERAL times that i get pretty sick, so i think he gave me several different anti-nausea meds. it's also hard for me to shake the anesthesia- it takes about a week before the fogginess lifts from my brain. i did have nausea in the hospital, but i was taking a lot more pain med while there. once i got home i contained it to only at night, and i didn't get too nauseous.

since being on a full diet, though, i've been experiecing nausea again. *shrug*

i don't think there's a lot of predictability to it. everyone is different........

Not my first surgery, was nauseus afterwards but it was directly related to the pain medication. Got injections of Zofran and Phenergan in the hospital and took a few Zofran pills once home.

Horribly nauseated .after surgery.  Happens everytime.  Told Dr. and Anesthsiologist and they gave me the whole gambit, patch, pre-meds, post-meds but still happened.  Think some of it may have been the morphine they were giving me post-op.  Resolved in about a day and half.  Haven't had any more problems with it, so mine is definately anesthesia and medication related
