RE: carbs...are you "normal" I say yes...and NO! I'll explain......
Many "third world countries eat beans and rice/bread as "staples" of their diet.........are they all lean? MOST people don't get "fat" eating ......fish, beef, chicken, pork, etc. the problem is we eat meat AND the wrong type of carbs too.......plus dessert ! There are some "vegetarians on this board who were MO on a "vegetarian" lifestyle. Don't think they were cheating W/ grilled fish or chicken! If they were.....the may not have needed WLS!
I know more than a few closet eaters also. I just don't buy it. I think there's a lot of denial and shame when it comes to being MO.

I think we just need to be honest about what works or doesn't work for us. Carbs don't work for me, it doesn't matter what form they're in. At least not today. Maybe later they will, but I doubt it.

We are normal, it's the carbs that are abnormal, along with our sedentary lifestyles.
Refined carbs are like drugs. They enter our system like we ate an amount of unrefined carbs that we could not physically manage. It would probably take about a bucket of beans to produce the sugar that is in a regular soda.
This overload of sugar produces an abnormal amount of insulin which in turns stores this abnormal amount of sugar as FAT!!!
Back when people actually had to physically work to get through a day, they probably could handle more carbs and not get fat, as long as they were not refined carbs.
Everybody has to find what works for them. If one is able and willing to be physically active they probably can eat whatever they want if they have a reduced stomach capacity. Those of us that hate exercise and need a fire lit under out butts to get us to move are not going to be able to eat whatever we want if it involves refined carbs to any degree.
Now that our systems are compromised by getting fat and having an insulin response that developed because of eating processed carbs, most of us will have to curtail carbs to lose weight and keep it off. Eventually eating crap will catch up with just about everybody, the rest will probably die before they get fat.
I really hate modern living because of what it is doing to us humans.
