Good point and I don't doubt it and I bet a lot of it is high fructose corn syrup which seems to do worse things to blood sugar and insulin levels than cane or beet sugar. And I really do think some individuals are just more suceptible to negative impact from carbs. I know that Native Americans from the plains tribes have rampant diabetes and its believed this is because modern diet is so different from historical diet of meats and gathered fruits and seeds. Since I am of Swiss ancestry I believe I am geneticly programmed to eat chocolate and cheese. Such a burden. But somehow managed to avoid the urge to wear leather shorts and yodel! Diane
p.s. set clock back tonight eveybody!
GREAT post Jimbo!! I have learned being 3 years out what can and can't work for me and carbs processed carbs of any kind are in the can't work...that includes but is not limited to brown rice, quinoa, tortilla, etc. Anything that has been ground up and MADE into something after awhile will trigger ME.
I am learning now that fruits like apples and oranges are can carbs and work for me. I'm not really tracking right now, but trying to get over my cravings as I allowed the can't carbs into my life. So far so good (gave up carbs and sweets for Lent) and once I'm a week or more in I will more then likely start tracking to SEE where my numbers are but for now 1-2 pieces of fruit a day.

Hi,
I came across your excellent post from 3/2011 and want to thank you for the excellent thread you started. This info is priceless and really hits home. Briefly I have gained and lost 100's of pounds since I was 9 yrs old; then about 6 years ago lost 75 pounds was feeling good and started to eat some ice cream and I swear it was like a switch went off in my brain and all bets were off.....the carb monster was back....I couldn't stop eating to save myself.
Very grateful for my new VSG and working on my new "brain".....thanks for continuing to share on the boards!!!
