I have been having issues for a few weeks straining to go. I tried fiber choice chewables and benefiber with no results. I think I have to step things up. Any words of wisdom for me?

I am about 9 weeks out.

Thanks!

I think everyone is different. I tried stool softener daily and that did nothing. Now - I am doing benefiber 2-3 times per day and it is helping. A lot of people take Miralax - but all I've seen is liquid and I"m not interested in that!! Good luck!

My doctor said to use Miralax, and that is what I use.  I put it in my juice, or if I have a protein shake.  Everyone is different but I just put 1/2 a lid in something 2-3 times a week and it works fine, some people use about that much daily.  I have not seen Miralax in liquid form, that would be interesting.  I get it at CostCo but I've seen it everywhere

I tried psyllium husks...bad choice for a VSG patient - I found out the hard way!

To get things going, I added 1/2 dose of Miralax powder to my protein shakes for a couple of days. And then to keep things going, a daily dose of Benefiber is usually enough. Keeping up your fluid intake is super important as well. I aim for 80-100oz a day...

I use Miralax every day, about 2/3 of a cap full, mixed in my protein shake. Can't even tell it's in there and I "go" normally every day just like I did before surgery. My surgeon said it is safe to take daily. I fiddled with the dose until I found the right one for me ... and that's the key. You need to find what's right for you ...we're all unique individuals and our diets vary somewhat. I am still on 2 shakes a day, with one high density protein meal, very little veggies due to other issues. A tiny amount of fruit. So my body is good with that Miralax dose for now. I don't know what it will be when I'm on maintenance, but it works for me without causing any gas, discomfort, etc. I just feel normal ... and that's so much better than being so danged constipated I had to resort to using stronger stuff for a while. Ain't going back to that place, nope! And it's on my Costco list along with Premier Protein shakes, etc.!

Hugs!

Thanks everyone. I think I am going to try Miralax to get things going and switch to benefiber to maintain.

I definitely need more than fiber at this point!

I tried a cap full of Miralax everday for about a week.  I was going every day but it felt like I was never finished and I didn't like going small amounts 2-3 times a day... so I am back to taking dss/sena pills and that works for me.

Good luck!

I haven't had the sleeve yet  but a friend of mine had and she had horrible issues with constipation a few days after surgery. She was in a lot of pain! Some of it was from the pain meds.

I just went to Walmart and bought their brand of Miralax so I will have it on hand. I think I am going to start taking it right before surgery. (I'm awaiting ins. approval) and then continue taking it afterwards.
