Vein feels swollen, but not hot or red...looks a little bruised but still hurts when touched. WTH? Seems like this should be healed by now, a friend suggested that maybe they blew the vein whatever that means.
I do remember it burning like heck when they put the nausea meds in and flushed it...I told them but they didn't seem to care too much...Now I'm worried.

You may want to check with your doctor about that. I never had any pain with my IV. It didn't hurt when they put it in (In fact I was still waiting for the stick, when she said she was all done!), it didn't hurt anytime they gave me medicine through it and it didn't hurt when they took it out. I did have a small bruise after they took it out, but it never hurt at any time. So I would call your doctor on Monday and see what could be going on for it to be still hurting almost a month out?
Totally normal. I'm four months out and it still hurts a little. Same thing happened with the IV sites from my 3 c-sections. It took a few months before I didn't feel anything and couldn't see the "poke" mark. Have the doc look at it at your next appointment, but I wouldn't worry too much since it's not hot or red.

My IV hurt like heck when they flushed it too! It still hurts like crazy, but I am six days out. The nurse who did my iv said they use a larger needle with WLS patients because of all the fluid constantly being pumped into us. She warned me it would hurt more. She said the bigger the needle, the more scar tissue there is until it heals. My hubby accidently touched my IV site today and I screamed at a family New Year's Day get together. I think they though he hit me or something! LOL It just still hurts sooo bad. I hope it heals soon.
Drink plenty of fluids because you want to keep your veins nice and plump and your blood flowing nicely throughout your body. I had 5 IVs during my stay at the hospital and none of them hurt now (nearly 4 weeks post-op). Maybe I'm just lucky, but I really think it's because I basically live with a glass of water in my hand these days. But I would still ask my doc if I were you. Never hurts to ask.
Good luck.
Good luck.

The first IV site they tried on me is still noticable, and I am almost two months out. They blew the vein (they tried to use too big a needle and went in at the wrong angle- went right through a perfectly good plump vein!).
The one they were finally able to get infiltrated after two days, VERY PAINFUL!!! I was stuck 5 times at 3 in the morning before they were able to get another good IV going, and it only lasted about 6 hours. Ugh.
ANYway, it should be fine. It's probably just some mild phlebitis, but if it starts getting hot/red/inflammed get the the doc's!

I'm about a month and some change out and it still hurts a little sometimes. "Blowing the IV" means that your vein burst and they had to take it out and put it in another one. They blew a lot of my veins during the initial surgery because they had a hard time finding my veins. Plus when they drew blood... Ugh, I looked like a drug addict at the end of my three days with all the bruises and needle marks on my arms.
7 weeks out here & the same as you. A little swollen, not red or hot. Only slightly sore if I rub the heck out of it--was sorer earlier on. Like you, they flushed my IV several times & it hurt like hell. I don't think it's anything to worry about, and will eventually go away.

Once I reach goal, this cow will be killed & eaten... 2 ounces at a time.
Total includes 56 lbs. lost on 2-month low carb pre-op diet. Start date 9/13/10.
My 1st IV site infiltrated after 24 hours and the nurses changed it immediately. However, that vein has not yet fully recovered. I still have a brownish line bruise there. I'm 3 1/2 months out. Veins can take forever to heal, and sometimes are just shut down and new veins form around them. Unless it gets red and hot I would not worry much about it. But run it past your doc!
