If this is the same Dr. Rodriguez, he has 56 reviews you can read from people who had their surgery with them.  Maybe if the revies are good, it will give you some peace of mind.  Is this him?

Here is his latest review.  It sounds comforting.

I had surgery on 9/23/2010, in Mexico with Dr. Jose Rodriguez. He was sooo nice and detailed, not only him but the entire staff were great. They supplied me with all the information they had explained about post-op in writing and email addresses and 1800 numbers to call. The facility was nice and clean and the nurses were so attentive. I would rate my whole experience a ten on ascale one to ten. It was a great experience. Haven't had any complications!    Posted on 09/30/2010

You can have the best surgeon in the world and still have complications.  I had pneumonia and a pleural effusion almost 3 weeks after surgery.  BCBS covered my SEVEN days in the hospital.  I had every specialist checking me out, from gastro(to rule out a leak), cardiologist, pulmonologist, etc.  Although they found that technically my surgery did not actually cause my complication, they came to the conclusion that the shock of not eating or drinking as before lowered my immunity, making me more prone to what did happen.  The insurance would pay barring a leak I would think, so you should be OK for most complications.  That said, very few complications occur.  Good luck!
