Ok I am scared I made a mistake! I know it has only been a week today but the gas pains in my left side and going into my chest yesterday really scared me. I layed on my left side and finally starting passing gas...thank god!!! I don't know how I could get that gassy I'm only drinking gatorade and had a protein bullet yesterday....but I seriously wanted to go to the hospital and tell them make it better!!! I hope today is better!

Was it like this for any of you?? And did it get better? When????

Dean

P.S I really want to love my sleeve....and I'm thinking I made a big mistake!

I'm sorry you're feeling that way. I had the gas on my left side (espcially in my left shoulder) for the first week or so. It used to help me to lift my left arm straight in the air and belch, belch, belch.

I was miserable and tired for the first two weeks, but that passed. Keep your head up and remember that it gets better and better.

I couldn't belch for months, so Ani's suggestion may not work for you. Have you tried GasX strips? They seemed to help me, as did walking. It definitely gets better.

I didn't have any gas pain so I can't really help you there.  But I wanted to reassure you that it will get better and you will love your sleeve.  The first couple weeks are the hardest, but once you get to eat soft food and the pounds start dropping off you will LOVE IT!!

I just hit two weeks today and I can tell you it does get better. I feel better each day. The gas pains are horrible at first, but they do start going away. Lay how you are most comfortable, I know for me I was up and down a lot because I just couldn't seem to get comfortable. The last two nights I slept on my sides for the first time in years. I am so happy.

Yes, the GasX Strips seemed to help me along.  Also, get up and move around as much as you can.  It will help too.  You'll hate the sleeve at first, but then it becomes your best buddy!

oh my girl.. I feel your pain. I also had really bad gas pains. Soem people have none and others reallt suffer. I was one of them. It does take time , trust me they will go away. Movement was the very best thing I could do.
Also sleeping on my side really helped. I used a super soft fluffy pillow and hugged it tight and rolled slightly to my side. I found I slept better and the gas pains were better. I hope this helps.
Hang in there my girl!!!

I felt the same way, and still have a love/hate relationship with my sleeve. A week out, prilosec OTC became my best friend, and the pains got much better.

Good Luck!!!

Because I'm new to the surgery like you, I can't say when it will get better and also want to know when it will get better.  My gas pain in mostly in my upper left shoulder but yesterday it began in my lower back, it was bad!!!  I could only sleep on my back because my left shoulder hurt to get on my side and then my back hurt because of the gas bubble or whatever it  was.  I used gas x strips, walking, heat pad, cold pack, repeat and finally took liquid tylenol at some point I was able to finally rest enough to  get some sleep.  I know people have said walking is key and I'm sure it helps but I've been walking circles in my house repeatedly and then around the block outside and the shoulder pain doesn't  go away.  I have not been passing gas or burping or belching...how do you make yourself do these things?  I have my one week check up tomorrow and have my drainage port removed so I will be asking the doctor.  If he tells me anything earth shattering I will certainly share with you.!

good luck,
Becky

I was so lucky not to have any gas pain, but in the hospital when I was walking my DH would walk with me and pat my back, all over, like trying to burp a baby.  This really got the burping and tooting going!

Give it a try.  What could it hurt?  Stranger things, right?

Hope you get some relief soon!
