Anyone who has replied to my previous posts may know I am considering having VSG. I am young, 26, and have not yet talked to my surgeon about the ability to have children wayyyyyyyyyy down the line afer surgery of this type. I wanted some immediate feeback-Has anyone who has had VSG reading this had a successful pregnancy after the surgery?

Kristen,

At the meeting with the doctor he recommended  the VSG for women who plan on having children in the future. Since there is no re-routing or malabsorption the fetus will get all its required nutrients.

Thanks for the info George- And you got to use the word 'fetus' which is one of my favorites.

Ditto what George said about the fetus (see I said it for you too).  In addition if I remember correctly a growing baby ONLY needs say an additional 500 calories a day...totally doable with the VSG.

When I was 300+ lbs I never had a cycle and my PCOS was horrendous.  Part of my reasons for getting the VSG were for my fertility.  I'm 26 too.  My cycles returned to normal 6 months after surgery (75lbs down) and I got pregnant at 9 months out of surgery.  Now, I would suggest you wait longer than I did (it was necessarily planned this way) because it is a struggle to get the extra calories in, but I manage it and my baby is doing great.  I lost weight in the first trimester (partly because of the morning sickness) but have gained 2 lbs in the last 3 weeks (which is right on track).  I'm not high risk or anything - I'm 180 now and a normal, healthy pregnant woman - I love it!

I started at 324lbs and a size 26.  After losing 100 lbs, I became pregnant with my first daughter, who was born in March 2011.  My second daughter was born in September 2013.  I have maintained a healthy lifestyle and now hover around 160lbs.  I would like to get back to the 140lbs before I became pregnant with my second daughter.  The sleeve literally gave me LIFE - two beautiful, healthy little girls.  My husband had his VSG with Dr. Marema on 10/1/2012 and is on his weight loss journey, currently down 90lbs.

The biggest factor in pregnancy is to stay out of ketosis which is deadly for the baby. You can do that by increasing food or eating more carbs. Vitamins are important bc you will not be eating a lot of food but make your tiny tummy work for you by eating all the healthy, vitamin rich foods.
