Hi --
I am trying to find some not-too-expensive protein shakes for post-op.  I saw that Trader Joe's has a shake -- chocolate -- that is called "pure protein shake"  this is the nutritional breakdown:

11 oz
170 cals
fat -- 1 g
carbs -- 4 g
fiber  - 1 g
sugar  - 1 g
protein -- 35 g
Also has 90% calcium rda and 50% phosphorus

Has anyone tried it???  Did you find it tolerable??? Seems to good to be true LOL and I dont wanna make a trip there and bye it if everyone says it tastes like ALPO!  LOL   Thanks!!!   Amy

I found it far too sweet.  Much prefer the Premiere Protein ready to drink at costco - it's about $23 for 18 count 11 oz cartons.  1 carton is 1 serving,160 calories,  30 gram protein, 1 gram sugar - can't recall the carb count but I know it's low.  I find it not too sweet most days and definitely best ice cold.

TJs shakes are good in a pinch. I like the vanilla ones.

They are pretty sweet, but I do use them.  I usually mix them W/ something else.  One of my faves is Coffee of your chouce , ice, and 1 choc shake...tastes like an iced mocha!   I did this at Starb's the other day. (i think they thought I was weird  double espresso W/ ice in a venti cup?)   Of course post-op you'll need to O.K. coffee W your doc!

I love the chocolate shake, my favorite kind. Just like chocolate milk. Haven't tried the vanilla. I am pretty sure they are re-branded Pure Protein (brand) shakes, in which case I also like the peanut butter flavor, but do not like the cookies & cream. At Trader Joe's you need to watch the label to make sure you get the 35g protein cans and not the 21g protein cans which look similar.
Lost 29 pounds in the ten months prior to surgery.  Since my VSG:

Thanks guys!!!   I will get a few to have here.  I did pick up the ones from costco this weekend but havent tried those yet.  I tend to prefer "not-too-sweet stuff" but I love the idea about coffee.  I am still preop and supposed to be off caffeine now but maybe iced decaf espesso in a venti cup   :-)   Thanks again!  I loe this board!!!    :-)   Amy
