BCBS Plans in IL, TX, OK and NM Now Cover the Sleeve !!!
Good news for folks with some BCBS policies! I just received an email from the coordinator for my surgeon saying effective immediately, the sleeve is now covered!
Here is a snippet from the email she forwarded:
We are pleased to announce exciting news for Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC) patients in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Illinois. HCSC, the parent company of the Blue Cross Blue Shield plans in these states, has recently added Gastric Sleeve coverage to their Bariatric Surgery Medical Policy.
Thanks, Vsgis4me, but sadly, it doesn't affect my situation directly. I have Empire BCBS.
Nevertheless, I'm extremely happy for others who have the affected BCBS plans who are in the same boat. Also, I can imagine that this development increases the chances that Empire and BCBS Ohio may cover VSG in the near future. My fingers are crossed!

John, I'm glad you won your appeal with Empire. I'm very happy for you, and it gives me hope that I and others may succeed in the future.
Unfortunately, that future may be at least 6 months away. I went through two appeals and was denied for both. I was told by Empire that I have to wait 6 months before resubmitting, even if their policy changes. Blah.
I'm investigating my options.

I had just read about you having to wait 6 months to resubmit and was really hoping this changed that for you!!!! Bummer!!
I am only on month 2 of my 6mo diet, so maybe we will have our surgeries near the same time. If BCBS Ohio and Empire start covering it, then maybe it will be sooner for both of us.
