Coffee Smoothie/Shake

Hey everyone!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Question for you protein shake/smoothie drinkers:

Does anyone have a good recipe for a protein shake or smoothie that uses coffee? I don't want to use the Click protein because of the carbs. I've been making a strawberry banana smoothie in the AMs but I'm missing my caffeine.
I tried making a coffee shake today with cold black coffee, a little half and half, ice, stevia, and a scoop of unflavored Unjury. It was okay, bu****ery and not very exciting. I was hoping for something that would come out like a Tim Horton's ice-cap or a Dunkin Donuts coffee blast.
Would vanilla (Carb Masters) yogurt be a good mix with coffee? Also what's the trick to keeping the ice nice and icey rather than turning to water when you blend it? a lower speed? better blender?

Any ideas you could toss my way would be much appreciated.

Thanks!! :)

Hmm, this sounds good...I'll be sure and watch for any suggestions.  On the blender...I think the answer is a better blender.  My 600W kitchenaid always has really fine ice rather than water.

I was going to start playing around with this too!  There's an iced coffee mix called New Orleans Brew I found had Whole Foods:

N.O. Brew is coffee, chicory and all-natural flavors. Nothing else. There are no unhealthy preservatives, flavor enhancers, sugars or syrups. Mix it with water, milk or your favorite milk substitute and enjoy.

It's very concentrated so you mix it... one serving as 10 calories and 1 carb.

I use coffee and my chocolate Nectar protein.  (click hurts my belly).

I will either make coffee ice cubes, or lately what I have done (since you mention carbmaster) is make carbmaster cubes!   6 ounces in a container, I plop a container into 6 cubes.

I think to make it icy and no****ery, you need more cubes!   Using frozen yogie cubes helps too!

Well, I'm a hard core coffee drinker (shhh...don't tell!).  Here is what I came up with for protein/coffee drink.  Hope you can use it.  I use skim milk or water, depending on my mood.  Mix in 1 scoop unjury chocolate protein powder, 1 scoop vanilla unjury protein powder, some instant coffee granules (I like mine on the strong side so will usually put in about a teaspoon), about a teaspoon of the General Foods International French Vanilla sugar free/decaf coffee, some ice cubes and whirl in my blender.  Yummy.  Also, will sometimes add in a little vanilla malt powder.  Makes it taste like a mocha shake.  Just depends on how "bad" I want to be that day.  If the protein powder bothers you, just use a scoop of either flavor.  Keeps me going till the afternoon when I remember it is time to eat (I forget to eat sometimes).

you coul make like a chocolate shake if there is one you like and add a packet of instant starbucks coffee.  I make a mocha or latte with a packet every morning just about.  Mmmmmmmmm its actually really good for instant

In my mini-blender, I put 6 ice cubes, 8 ounces FF milk, 1 teaspoon instant decaf crystals, and a squirt of SF chocolate syrup.

Pulse the blender till the mixture is slushy, and enjoy!

The trick with slushy and no****ery is adding less water.  So I usually only add about 1/2 cup.  I would make me either a chocolate smoothie or vanilla and add some instant coffee powder.  If you have click I would us 1 scoop of click (instead of 2) a scoop of another protein powder, vanilla, chocolate, plain about 1/2 cup of my choice of liquid and about 6-8 cubes.  Blend it real fast on high.

I enjoy my coffee protein "shake" hot.  This is my favorite breakfast.  I mix 8 ounces of skim milk with a scoop of vanilla protein mix in my shaker cup, shake well then microwave about 30 seconds, add 4 ounces of hot coffee and enjoy.  Total protein up to 30 grams depending on the protein powder I pick.
When I am out, I go to Starbucks and order a skim milk venti latte with added protein powder.  The protein is about 22 grams for that.
I won't be looking at the iced coffee drinks for awhile living as I do far North in Minnesota.
