Belly Button Odor??

For the last few days I have noticed an odor coming from me? I take showers every day, but still would smell this odor? Tonight, I happened to scratch near my belly button and found the source of the smell. It is coming from my belly button!
Has anyone else experienced this? This has never been a problem before...

Yes--I do. This is one thing that I would recommend you call and have your dr or WLS make a note; as it could be help getting insurance to help out with the cost of plastics, if you choose that route. In the meantime, a little "baby talc with cornstarch" would help absorb the sweat and make it less odorous. If it is raw and irritated, as mine sometimes get, first take a good photo, have the dr make notes (for plastics maybe) and then some of that butt cream folks use for diaper rash on the inside of the belly button would help. And I also get that same odor and rash under the panni fold of skin too. Anything that causes odor and / or rashes, document--just in case.

Ok...thanks for the info! I will report it to my Dr. and WLS and have them make a note of it. Plastics may be something that I might consider in the future.

Yes, I had that happen too. Even found the mystery smell the same way, although my dog found it first as he kept sticking his nose at my belly button through my shirt.  He really likes a good stink.

I think it is from the "extra" skin after loosing belly fat collapsing the belly button hole so that lint, moisture and a yeast type fungus are getting trapped in there, and the little critters are growing.

I first cleaned mine out with a Q-tip to get the lint, and then wet another -Q-tip with a little peroxide and water to clean all the skin.  It was a little sore inside where the skin had been inflamed and I did not even know it.  I then dried it with another Q-tip and sprayed it with athletes foot spray (anti-fungal).

I now dry it with a q-tip after every shower to keep it clean.  So far it has not re-occurred.

Good to know to keep it documented for possible future plastics.

LOL...Now that I think of it, my dog was sniffing around my belly area! He must have picked up the scent too!

I second the anti fungal spray.  Another route, especially for under the panni or any skin fold,  is a good stick deodorant.

What is the "panni"?

It is the apron like flap of skin that develops from loosing all the belly fat. Some people have it really bad, and where the skin overlaps it can develop a yeast infection all along the front.

Constant infections along this area is one of the reasons that some insurance policies will cover this operation when they won't cover anything else weight loss related.

I am hoping I don't need this done, but after my belly button incident, I can see how it is a future possibility. Still, better than the 100 pounds plus of fat.

You might want to try a drop of Oil of Oregano.  It may be a bit hot (or not), but it will kill any bacteria there.  I would use it on a regular basis until cleared, then occasionally as maintenance.  It is anti-fungal, anti-viral  etc...  Amazing stuff....
