But also be aware that staph infection/MRSA is found in hospitals all over the United States and worldwide. So regardless of where you have your surgery, it is up to you to demand that the nurses, doctors, etc. wash their hands upon entering your room. They should wash their hands BEFORE touching the gloves that they put on. Then, if they properly follow universal precautions, they will AGAIN wash their hands before leaving your room. I would advise that you take your own hand sanitizer and use it yourself after touching anything while you are in the hospital....... "you don't know where it has been" or where the hands have been that touched it before you. Staph and MRSA are nothing to mess with.

There is a difference in this and people who open businesses referring patients to MX doctors. These people are usually called coordinators and it is one of them *****sponds to your initial email or telephone inquiry to their referral service, after you have asked for info on a particular surgeon's pricing, etc.
They do receive a fee from the surgeon if you become a patient but they don't go on the boards soliciting your business,as it were,by talking up a particular surgeon.
Paying people to get your name out there is no more a crime than US Dr's putting commericals on the TV. As much as we think like patients we have to remember healthcare is a business. Take what everyone says with a grain of salt. PeanutFreeMom always gives great info for surgies in general. Listen to what she has to say (or anyone else for that matter) when you ask for info but never stop thinking for yourself. Realize that anyone who speaks for Dr's or are even really happy with their Dr will give you the happy go lucky side of things.

My thoughts exactly on advertising. I don't see why people are getting all sanctimonious about it. This site runs on doctors adverts from all over, I see adverts on TV all the time for local ones. You see adverts for docs in the Yellow pages and most doctors have marketing people now. I am considering surgery if I get denied again, going through a group called Lap S F in san francisco. They have such a great reputation on here, aaaand they spend a lot on advertising. Advertising lets you know whose really out there. I didnt just go to my nearest bariatric doctor and hope for the best.
In Canada, it is illegal for doctors to actually advertise. I think they can go as far as putting a business card in a magazine but no one does because there is such a shortage of doctors here that anyone accepting new patients fills up in no time. I was fascinated to see billboards all over Tijuana advertising various medical procedures. Also, I didn't know what medical tourism was. My referring lady is a nurse in her regular job here and I knew she got paid a bit of commission but I thought she was mostly being helpful to others.
The comparisons are interesting. Thanks for sharing, everyone.

The person whose revision resulted in an hourglass shaped sleeve was Joyce P.
GI pictures are in her profile and she commented on the surgeons page. Liza Maria Pompa Gonzalez M.D., Ph.D. in Tijuana was her surgeon.
