Hi Steve - Thanks for letting me know - we have been wondering about this - Old Medic posted on here one time that no decent WLS surgeon would not prescribe it for his patients - he is always so adamant in his comments - but Dr, Aceves said what you did about the bad side effects and potential damage to the liver.  oh oh - So I guess I need to worry about my liver....now....

I had surgery with Dr. Almanza and came home with an infection. My local doctor thought it was MRSA but, luckily, it wasn't. It was Serratia, which I guess is more common in Mexico than the US.

Greetings from Saskatoon.  You might want to ask PeanutFreeMom about Dr. Almanzo-Reyes.  Or Stoongal.  They are both from here and went to him.  Although PeanutFreeMom is referring to him now (her business is called weightlossforever.com), she is also stikes me as honest and definitely extremely knowledgeable about this industry.  She has several doctors in her family (I think they live in the Maritimes) and they felt comfy with her going to him.  Just a suggestion.  I have no dr. biases of my own.

My hubby and I went to Dr. Lopez-Corvala in Tinuana, Mexico.  I recovered beautifully but Hubby had an infection.  I should mention that he did not take ANY of the prescribed antibiotics and left his dressings unchanged and went from the shower for several days after he got home.  (By the way, I am still saying "I told you so" to him).   We paid about $9000 each but i think Melanie (peanutfreemom) can get a much lower rate from Dr. A-R.

PeanutFreeMom is in Tijuana right now for plastics I think.  Stoon gal is also there on an unrelated trip accompanying family members for their sleeves.  So be patient waiting for answers.

As of January I think she rented office space and got a "real" website so the one you quoted may not work.

HOWEVER, I said it was www.weightlossforever.com.  NOT TRUE.  That is some sort of gym website.  Melanie is at www.weightlossforever.ca.   The .ca suffix is a common Canadian thing.

Thanks for pointing that out.  Together, we hopefully directed folks in the right direction for info.

PeanutFreeMom is no longer suggesting Betancourt/Almanza due to the high infection rate and many complications over the last few months.

do you mean that some of these doctors actually  PAY people to go on this and other websites to talk up the surgeon??? I don't want to start something but this is something I was not aware of !
Does this happen on a regular basis?
