I was told that after surgery I wouldn't be able to have pills bigger than an eraser on a pencil.  I have read that many VSG'rs still take Prilosec for a period after surgery.
My question:  Is there a certain period that you can go back to regular size medications or is there a smaller form of the Prilosec capsule?

My date is December 21st!!!! - Only have 1 more pound to lose before........  Can't wait!!!!

By the way I do have to say THANK YOU to everyone on this forum....  ALL the information is so valuable and you have been a great inspiration to me.......

My surgery was on Nov. 30th. I was cleared for whole pills today. I'm still on clears though, because the protocol for food for my doctor is 2 wks clears, 2 wks, shakes, 2 wks pureed and then starting with soft food.

I really hated opening up the capsules (I have Nexium, Actigall, Biotin, Dry D and some others) because trying to eat powder is very weird. I finally settled for warming up free range chicken broth (tastes soooo much better than the other kind) and pouring a little into a small cup, then opening up a capsule in that, stirring a little bit and knocking it back in one toss. Gross, but worked!

Good luck with your surgery and congrats on your success with your pre-diet.

I think it depends on the Doctor.  I was never on any pill restriction.  I was told from the beginning that pills were ok.

Hi, Jen.
Prilosec OTC is a pretty small pill. It's oblong and very thin. Just wet your whistle first, and you should be fine.
Blessings,

Just adding that since I was having such trouble gagging on my chewable vitamins, my surgeon cleared me to take vitamin capsules at 2 weeks.  And those are pretty decently sized - I was just careful to wait 15-20 min between pills.

I started at 324lbs and a size 26.  After losing 100 lbs, I became pregnant with my first daughter, who was born in March 2011.  My second daughter was born in September 2013.  I have maintained a healthy lifestyle and now hover around 160lbs.  I would like to get back to the 140lbs before I became pregnant with my second daughter.  The sleeve literally gave me LIFE - two beautiful, healthy little girls.  My husband had his VSG with Dr. Marema on 10/1/2012 and is on his weight loss journey, currently down 90lbs.

That is a good question, thanks for asking it!!

What about the pain medication post-op? Is that pill form or liquid?
